Choose my next brush?

Ok guys,

The replies are gonna decide it - further to a recent thread I'm torn between a Duke 1 in Pure and a Semogue 620; yep, I like 'em scritchy, short loft & tough. I know I'm looking at opposite ends of the spectrum here - price not an issue. I'm a converted face latherer now,

What should I get?

Semogue is a top notch boar brush. If you are willing to pay the price of a Duke though, you also may want to consider the Semogue SOC boar, which is better than the 620 IMHO.

If you like them scritchy then go for the Duke 1 in pure, their pure hair is really scritchy to me. The Semogue will soften up a bunch over time and won't be scritchy.

I've had both the Duke in pure and the 620. The 620 loses much of its initial scritch, but is a great face latherer for the money. Buy the 620 and an SOC for less than the Duke.

I would go with the Semogue if you don't own a boar brush already. It is my daily workhorse. Great brush for face lathering.

AS eveyone else says the Duke 1 in pure is scritchey but the 620 will soften in time. I liked both but now only have the Duke. Does that tell ya anything?

I've got a Simpsons Special in pure and Beaufort 2 and they're my two favorite brushes. Also have a Semogue 1438 which I think is similar to the 620 except for the handle. The 1438 is really good but I think the badgers give a little better scrub. So I'd get the Duke if I were you. I'm trying to decide between it and an Eagle G1 myself.

I've tried the 620 and a duke 2 pure. The 620 was scratchy, almost to the point of discomfort. Of the boars I tried it was prob my fav although it was a shedder big time. Did not soften with use for me.

The duke in pure was scratchy to the point where I could not face lather with it, more scratchy than the 620 for sure. It was painful, gave me brush burn and left my skin red after using it.

You will never regret getting the 620, ive used it maybe 12-15 times to far and its ultra soft, hasnt lost a hair yet.

620 is better than all of my top notch expensive silvertip badger brushes. Its got very soft tips and a great backbone. And to the fellow that said his 620 was shedding hair... hmmm I have never had a problem with mine. I remember it only lost 1 hair as i can recall.

shavemac!!!!!!! please, just get it for me and enjoy it. so I can know some happy soul can afford it and enjoy it.
Shavemac!!!!
I'm saving to restore a vintage handle with a TGN knot. they sell'em short and long.
I suggest something like a 46-54mm loft. 21-23mm knot. I face lather myself.

I almost got a shavemac 177 last year but chose the SR 3824 instead: I wanted a big, ballsy silvertip but now that I'm face lathering more that SR just feels unwieldy around the gob. My go-to face brush is this shor loft boar I got in a gift box that just feels great.

For the record I'm leaning toward a Duke 1 or 2 in Best now - I've read that Pure can have machine-cut ends or am I wrong?

I am not a pro regarding brushes, but what about a: da Vinci Uomo 293?
After what I have heard, it is good enough to use with soaps, croaps, creams and to bowl lather AND face lather.

I am definitely going to buy this on the next pay day.

Mad Man, why not get a Custom Shavemac, ~19-20mm knot with a low loft. You could have your choice of Hair grade, Knot Shape, Hadle & Color for ~$100.00 or less. I had a Finest Custom 46/19mm in Fan, nice Face Lathering Brush with minimal scritch and a fair amount of scrub. If you want more scritch keep the loft below 45mm, and select a Pure or Finest Grade Hair.

59, I completely missed that! Considering how much time I spent deliberating last year bw shavemac & savile row I forgot about the custom feature.

Going to the site now. Thanks bloke!
