Cheap Safety Razors

Which of these cheap razors (preferably under $10) is best?

What is your experience with them and can they give the same level of closeness as some more expensive razors?

I take it you are speaking of the budget razors towards the bottom of the page.

Is this it?

IMHO, you should head to the BST forum and find yourself a nice Gillette Tech for $10-15. They are great shavers, and will certainly be better built than the plastic Lords or the Chinese stuff.

+1 on that. The Gillettes were built like tanks and will survive for another 100 years if taken care of properly.

There were also some deals on LUX and Feather portables which are better built than those cheap, no frills, "budget" razors.

I just got a Merkur slim handle with plastic box and one razor blade for $26.95from Bowman Beauty and Barber Supply, it seems to be the new Tech razor and it feels more solid than a Chinese Tech, the Weishi. . If you want used Topgumby is right , you can't beat a Gillette Tech. I own two and I paid $3 and $10 for them on ebay, great razors. New old stock quality Techs always come up on ebay and since on one collects them they are always cheap.

Once cleaned and disinfected they are fine.

You can still find good deals on things like a Merkur 1904 Classic.

You may even try flea markets or shops that cater to Eastern European, or Asian clienteles as they may have the cheap razors you were looking for at a better price and without shipping and handling

Agree, you can find a tech or plastic handled super speed for $10 easily on the BST. Money well spent.

I don't really feel like using a used razor. I should have probably mentioned that.

They are metal, and metal can be sanitized/sterilized. I understand there may be some squeamishness, but a properly cleaned vintage razor is going to harbor as few bacteria as a new one straight from the plastic bubble package. And, it is going to be of better construction and give you better shaves than a new, cheap razor at the same price.

I bought the great majority of my razors for less then 10 bucks. Many GEMs, a Fat Boy, a slim, cased Aristocrat, cased NEW Improved, 1905 cased Double Ring... They were all from antique shops and needed a good cleaning, but less than 10 bucks:biggrin:
$10 isn't very reasonable for a quality new razor, but for just a little more ($30 range) you'll get a solid piece of art that will last you a life time. You, and your son, and his son... After all, we are all saving money by switching to inexpensive DE blades, right:lol:
