Cheap N Nasty!

Ok, so it goes like this!
DE shavers have all kinds of preferences about what they shave with.
Some guys like high end Stainless Steel, others like modern razors such as Merkurs, Muhles, Edwin Jaggers and Fatips, while others like vintage models from nearly a century ago!
Now, I on the other hand like most of the aforementioned shavers, except that I don't own a Stainless Steel razor as of yet, and while I would say I love good quality razors I have
a penchant for trying out cheap DE razors if I spot them in a shop. I have tried a Yuma razor which cost less than the price of a cup of coffee. I was about to try a plastic Sik Bay but it
disintegrated in my paw before I even put the blade in! Now today I found this and I could not resist. It is a Boots DE razor, it comes with 5 Israeli made blades and costs €4.99. It looks
very much like a Tech and weights very little. I will test shave it soon and post the results here. I will also video the shave and post it on YouTube, which I have done with my other razors!
So, gentlemen, in your own good time, please post your cheap N nasty DE and if possible tell us what they shaved like! Thank you. Let the games commence!

I love the way it tells you how great single blades are! We already know!

Awesome, Post a link to your Video/Videos , Also what draws you to cheap made razors? I would be worried about no kind of quality control, improper and uneven blade exposure, and a few other things that could cut my face badly :eek:/

The pro makes do and achieves with what he's given! Ha! Ha! I just get a kick out of shaving that's all. I like to try out cheap razors for kicks!
Corporations spent billions on telling us multi-bade carts are the best when it's a load of baloney. A sharp blade will shave a man, even if it's tied to a piece of wood!
This is the link. There are all kinds of things on this channel but I have about ten shave videos up made over the last 10 months.

Very cool thread. It will be interesting to see if some of the "cheap & nasty" perform as well or better than some of the high priced razors.

My cheapest & nastiest is a no-name red plastic 3-piece that I picked up for a couple of dollars on eBay. Huge blade exposure. Huge blade gap. Almost no bend to the blade. It's the only razor in my stable that I have not come close to mastering.

I would be happy to PIF it to any member for whom the more aggressive the razor, the better.

"Cheap" is a bit of a relative term... lol I'll go with the "low cost" definition. I avoid the stuff that is obviously "cheap" meaning low priced, but you get what you pay for, quality (or lack of it).

The RR/Cadet razors are very low priced, even more so considering the quality of them, and they shave like a dream! You can also find vintage razors for $5-$10 from various places that are solid built to last, and also shave great... Or, you can spend $5-$10 on a plastic blister packed DE that may disintegrate while trying to put a blade in it the first time... lol

If cheap works for you that's great.
I've had expensive razors that don't work worth a darn.
Wouldn't you know it, the $5 Tech from the flea market works better than some of the expensive ones.

I've had some great shaves from the ultra cheap options. The junjie with the heavy metal handle is a great little razor when you find one with a good cap and take care to not over-tighten it.

I had ordered a Sodial/Rimei razor from one of the Hong Kong vendors on Amazon, but received a Junjie instead. Even though the handle has a decent weight to it, the head is made of very thin metal. It has no posts on the bottom plate to align the blade and the Safety Bars are at about a 90 degree angle from the rest of the bottom plate, so the blade just more or less sticks straight out on both sides, largely unprotected.

I tried it this morning with an Astra blade and it was a brutal experience - kind of like trying to hold a blade with a pair of pliars and shaving with the raw blade. I'll at least keep the handle in case I should want to use replace the handle on some other razor in the future, but the head is totally worthless. Glad I only paid about $2.25 for it, but still think I overpaid.

That red plastic 'death trap' looks both deadly and exciting!
The latest trend where I'm at is to let your beard grow out. This is considered manly. My response is "which is more manly not doing anything with your face or taking an ultra sharp blade and running it on you face and throat?"

I have the Wilkinson Sword Classic in Black. Bought from Boots for £4.50 with 5 Wilkinson Sword Blades as my re-entry into DE shaving about 5 years ago. It is VERY VERY mild but a superb razor nonetheless. It is made of black plastic (Delrin I think it is called) with a long weighted handle. Because it looks cheap I quickly upgraded to what is now my favourite razor -- Edwin Jagger with a custom Rod Neep stone handle.

I still shave occasionally with the Wilkinson just to remind me how good the razor is -- not far behind the EJ and way ahead of my Parker 45R.

I've got a Gillette Rubie (Russian-made Tech; just like the Boots in the first post), and a Gillette 7 O'clock Permasharp (plastic click-top). Both of them are very lightweight and cheap-feeling, and both shave great.

I have had a few cheap and nasty razors, here are a few.

Those are not cheap and nasty..... They are just inexpensive and need to be cleaned..... Big difference in my mind.

The Boots DE in the OP was the first DE I tried - you get 5 IP blades with it too which is a good start. It's supermild but gives a good shave.
The Rimei is actually lovely, smooth and just slightly more aggressive than a Tech. It comes with a lovely long hollow handle and the base unscrews so you can pack it with lead shot and epoxy
Another good cheapie is the Pilot Magnum from Pakistan - it's got a badly made very aggressive Mariner head and an awesome hefty bulldog handle.

I was always intrigued by the cheap Chinese razors, there's one I've been on the fence about buying for awhile. I did throw down a couple of bucks for the BIG ROC.

It was so hideous I binned it without using it however.
