Century Reserve Lot 1525 Rye

First off I would like to introduce myself, hello!

Manhattans are one of my favorite libations and the thread is excellent.
Being Canadian, I just assumed that Canadian Whisky was rye.
Long story shortened, after reading through a number of the threads in the Speakeasy I started to search my local liquor store online for some real rye.
I do not live in the big city, so the choice was a bit more limited online.
In store was a bit different. Found a number of ryes, many American.
I decided to pick up a bottle of Century Reserve Lot 1525 Rye.
It has an interesting pedigree, basically being stock found when an old Distillery was sold that was marked 15 - 25 years old.

I am a single malt drinker, preferably with a splash of room temperature water.
I tried a healthy splash of the 1525 neat.
I am no good at tasting notes, but I was very surprised at the excitement this rye produced in my mouth.
It truly is made to sip, I enjoyed that healthy splash for over a half hour.

The price, at $30 CAD, is also a very good deal for a sipping whisky, even compared to blended scotch.

Thank you gentlemen for showing me the way.

"I loved that last act. Then again, I love vaseline sandwiches on cardboard toast."- Chuck Barris

I grew up in Niagara Falls (New York) and most everyone referred to blended whiskey (particularly Canadian whiskey) as "rye". It wasn't until I started bartending (at age 18) and discovered Old Overholt that I realized Rye was it's own thing.

I will be in Ontario in July for a few days (at a cottage on Lake Erie). Typically we bring in most of the booze from the states, due to selection and price. But this sounds like a reasonable price for an interesting rye I am unlikely to get to try in the USA. Perhaps they will have some at the Duty-Free Shop.

Duty Free shops are like Christmas at times.
There is always the hint that a nice bottle of something will be a great deal.
Our local ones on the west coast have a deal that you skirt the border lineup if visiting the Duty Free and then get shot out near the front.
Christmas twice in one day!!
