Cella: Love the soap, hate the bowl

I got some Cella and it lathers/performs great, but I hate the bowl it came in (the red one)

It is 3 inches in diameter and it is big enough to be functional, but i like wider bowls to help load the brush.

Anyone ever take the soap and press/mold it into another bowl? Does it need to stay covered or will it dry out if left to the open air???

Cella is one of my favorites... I scoop it out and put it into a spare wooden bowl. I don't care for using it in the container it comes in. Too small for my tastes...

What I did was put it in a ziploc "twist 'n loc" bowl like this:

While not the most attractive addition to you shave den, they are very useful, priced cheaply, and are widely available. They have a wider base, higher sides, and they also have a screw top lid to seal in the soap. I use them for Cella and L'Occitane CADE and the lather has really improved because their shape allows me to more fully load the brush.

All you need to do is load the brush, which only takes several twirls of your shave brush.

Instead of posting a new thread, I decided to revive this one as it touch the same subject.

Cella bowl.

I won't be hidding that I had problems getting good lather out of cella for my first few attempts. I used my Muhle Pinsel Silvertip and the bristles are forming a half circle making a large brush. Only 1/2-1/3 of the bristles fit in the bowl.

The lather was coming out too thin and too dry. After reading a few threads that a lot of water is required, I tried it. Yes, a bit better but not fantastic. Then, I saw a thread like this one suggesting to get a new bowl to place my cella. I can do that but I rather work with what I have. Bigger bowl take more room in the den and I try to avoid that.

So, long story short, I came up with the idea of squeezing the bristles half way between the knot and the tip causing the brush to be a lot more pointy (a bit like a boar brush). I charged the brush and the more I charged, the more I released the bristles. I probably ended up with 2x more product than usual, maybe more. Lather, perfect and yes, easy to work with. Rookie mistake to not charge the brush enough.

So now, I keep the original container and I get good lather. I really appreciate the product now!

Dunno. Got my brick in a plastic wrapper in a cardboard box. Got myself some Ikea pottery that seems to work fine.:001_rolle

+1.

Got some Cella in yesterday to try it out since it was getting some high praise. I was surprised the bowl was as small as it was... it pictures bigger! Anyway, I was just going to scoop a bit out into another bowl but decided to try it "in bowl" as that seem to work from what I have read. My Hoffritz badger is a smaller brush so I used that... swirled it just a bit and some got some light foam coming up. Thought to myself... hmm I don't think this is going to work, but then I looked at the brush and it was splayed like it was loaded even though I did not see any creamy lather on it. Put it to my face and it exploded with a rich thick lather.

WOW! I did not expect that at all. It is so rich, slick, creamy and moisturizing! It softened my very tough whiskers like nothing else I have tried and I ended up with the smoothest feeling face I have ever had.

The scent of almonds probably isn't for everybody, but fine for me. I'm not into scented/perfumy soaps or creams. Smell doesn't linger so you can easily follow with any flavor AS you'd like without clashing.

I can't believe the how cheap this is and how well it works. LOVE IT! I like it better than my GFT Coconut, especially for the price!

One more reason I like a smaller brush.
