Cella I Thought It was Almond

Was I the only one expecting classic almond scent but just got a sweet cherry scent. A bit too sweet. I think it gave me a migrane. Are R160 or P160 also more of a cherry rather than almod scent? I bought a 125 to 150 gram chunk from a fellow member in a mama bears tub. I pressed the block into the tub and started to test lather with a whipped dog pure badger brush. I was not able to finish my test lather when my migrane struck. I had to stop. Will probably try to trade for other soap if any one is interested.

I didn't like Cella either and I don't understand the big fuzz around it. Like you, I found the scent to be too sweet and the performance was just ok.

...and don't get me started on RR cacao, there's nothing "cacao" about it.

+1 on Cella and with RR cacao.

The scent is from Bitter Almond. Maraschino cherries are flavored with bitter almond extract also. I suppose you could claim "Olfatory association".

Thanks for the info guys. Especially about the rr cacao. I was interested in that one. Do like RR MdB and XXX.

If you want almond then I would recommend trying 3P shave soap, it has a very distinct bitter almond / marzipan smell that is much stronger than Cella. Connaught shaving has samples available of this soap so you can give it a try without buying a large amount.

I also dislike the smell of Cella, (way to sweet) but it lathers like a champ, so I use a bit of cream with it to cover the smell, like Musgo or La Toja. An let me say, Cella Uberlather is Boss!!

In my mind, TOBS Almond, Vitos Extra Super Coconut soap, and others smell a lot like Cella, to me.
Cella has been a top dog in Italian Barber shops for many years... actually all three are a fav of mine...but the YMMV is always
just around the corner. Use what you like is the best way to shave...especially using the ones that don't require Imitrex.

Almond extract doesn't smell like toasted almonds. That's the problem. I'd love a toasted almond scented soap... don't know of any though. So yes, most people tend to describe "almond" soaps as more of a marzipan scent than what you'd recognize as "almond".

Thanks for the explanation. I, too, think Cella smells like cherry. Lathers and feels great, but I can't get past the cloying smell. Otherwise I would buy a kilo of the stuff.

+1 on the 3P. I cannot physically tolerate the Cella smell, but 3P is much nicer to my nose. Plus, it seems to be a very good performer. I got the 125g sample from Connaught at a great price.

I love Cella but to me it smells like Maraschino cherries. If you want a true "bitter" or quinine scent I would suggest DR Harris Almond.
