Celebration Scotch suggestion

Well, this afternoon I was called and offered a new job. I will be extremely sad about leaving the great people I've been working with for about 2 1/2 years but I'm also unhappy here.

Anyway... tonight I'm going to be buying a celebratory bottle of single malt.
Looking around the $100 range but willing to spend a little less or a little more. :p

Some of my favorites so far on my Scotch journey are Balvenie Double Wood, Laphroaig, and MacAllan Elegancia.

Based on those favorites what would you suggest for the "next step up"?
On a side note... I really like Laphroaig but would not want to drink it daily... but I don't mind some smoke and peat either. I seem to be fan of something fairly sweet, kinda fruity. Glenlivet 12 was my first single malt. So that may have something to do with it.

Thanks in advance!

I'm not sure what Highland Park 16y.o. costs in your neck of the woods, but it is a wonderful drop. BTW- if I were you, I would buy the Laphroaig....... you might not finish the bottle so quickly and it will provide happy memories of this moment for you.
Whatever you decide, good luck and congratulations.

It's worth noting that I own and still have significant portions of the bottles mentioned in my first post. :thumbup1:

i would also go with the laphroaig maybe the 18 year old cost me here about 55 pounds so about 85 usd.

Congratulations on your new job and enjoy your celebratory drink. I am very fond of Macallan 18. In my area it can be purchased for around $120.00 to 130.00. I just purchased a bottle of Glenlivet 21 in a wood box for $135.00. These prices vary widely in my area so one should do some prudent shopping. I have found that some proprietors are willing to be a bit flexible on pricing under certain circumstances.

Enjoy,

Doug

Both are very good. Don't discount the Glenlivet 18yr, about $75 in these parts. much much better then the Glenlivet 12 and 15.

The first question you have to ask is what taste profile do you want. Smokey, peaty, fruity, toffee,...etc. From your list you like scotch from the sweeter profile to the more peaty, whats your favorite?

Lagavulin: The Distillers Edition 1991 can be purchased around $100
The next Scotch I would like to try is Ardbeg Corryvreckan which should about $85

Went with the MacAllan 15 year fine oak.
Not a bad drink, enjoyed some last night. Seemed to get better as the night went on... I sip very slowly. Paired up nicely with a ribeye and a 1999 Montecristo cigar.

Was a good evening! :thumbup1:

Thanks for the suggestions!

+1 on the Macallan suggestions! I usually drink the 15yr fine oak at home. A friend of mine wanted to get into drinking scotch, and I recommended he pick up the 10yr fine oak, he's been very happy with it.

Lagavulin 16 is a nice Islay malt that isn't as smokey as Laphroaig. It is probably my favorite. However I generaly drink the Laphroaig.

The Balvenie Double wood is very nice.

You might give the Glenmorangie portwood finish shot as well.

Lagavulin 16 is on my shortlist.
I have the Balvenie Double Wood and my buddy has a 1/3 bottle of Glenmorangie Quinta Ruben sitting on my shelf, which is port wood finish if I recall.

Didn't like the Glenmorangie QR the first time I tried it but really enjoyed it the other night.
Balvenie DW is one of my favorites... very nice.
