Barbicide recommends a 10 minute soak. Now I see why. This is a Gillette Old-Style OC that I have in queue for a replate, but I like it so much I have been using it. After my shave yesterday, I dropped it in the Barbicide to let it soak while I was getting dressed - fully intending to take it out after a few minutes. Well....I forgot about it until this morning - about 26 hours later!
This razor is actually in decent shape. Of course, there is brassing commensurate with its age - but nothing that made it need an immediate replate. Now, all of the brassed areas are BLACK! This blackened brass may polish out - back to its original color, but that sort of polishing may not be well advised for a razor with weak original plating.
No big deal since this razor is getting a replate anyway. But, for some of you gents that have razors with only minor brassing and no plans for a replate........an overly long Barbicide soak could definitely hurt the appearance of it.
Definitely a case of where less is more! Heads up!
I will start a replate on this razor within the next few days - and I will post the outcome when I have finished it.
Before Barbicide Soak
After Accidental Extended Barbicide Soak
