Can you suggest a badger/synth shaving brush under $40?

Hi,

I'm a noob, I haven't even received my Edwin Jagger razor from WCS yet.(purchased last fri)
I've been using OMEGA boar brush($15) with my regular cartridge razor and feel like I should upgrade to a badger or synthetic brush.
I wasn't sure if I should just get the Tweezerman Badger shaving brush for $15 or spend a little bit more and get a better one or even go synthetic. I definitely don't want to spend more than $40-50...and cheaper the better..

It would be great if its got relatively cheap shipping to Canada as well...

thank you in advance..

From one noob to another, I think I got my tweezerman for under 15.00, and it's pretty good for making lather, although the tips are kinda scratchy feeling- enough that I have been hinting pretty heavily to SWMBO about a new brush for Xmas... as a noob brush tho it's great IMHO.

For a few (very few) dollars more you can get a New Forest Silvertip. A brush that can hold it's own with anything out there!

I've been using mine almost exclusively for almost two months, and it's now my "go to" brush.

Does WCS have some sort of year end/xmas sale?
now i want to get a stand to go with it...
this shaving business is getting to be very expensive..
and I haven't even got my razor yet...

I swear by my Tweezerman. It's cheap and remarkably effective, IMO.
Of the two brushes I have (Tweezerman and a pricier Kingsley), the tweezerman gets use when I want to make a great lather in a hurry.

I appreciate all of your inputs/comments....

I seem to be spending a lot more money by going cheap first and then buying something I should have bought in the first place.

I already have a $15 Omega brush, do you think I should buy Tweezerman or Edwin Jagger? $15 vs $44.. its a tuff call...

Don't forget the Frank's Shaving brushes while on your budget conscious quest. I think Tweezerman is a great bargain, but the FS brushes are a step above IMO. They have gotten lots of love from several members on here, and can be purchased cheaply on the bay.

+1. Although in my case it's vintage razors instead of brushes... Although the brush AD is starting to kick in since reading your thread.

I was like 90% sold to buying Tweezerman until I read your review... -"although the tips are kinda scratchy feeling..." that made me wanna spend a little bit more and get Edwin... haha
Tweezerman is a GREAT deal for what you get, but...

OMEGA boar=pontiac
Tweezerman=honda civic
Edwin Jagger= BUT i want CAMRY!!!! haha.. drives like mercedes at 1/3 of the price..

Hmm it really depends on you Mark if you want to take a risk on the tweezerman or not. If you find it no better than the 15$ omega boar then you are essentially back to square 1 and looking again at a 44$ EJ which means you will have spent more in total. However the EJ has been said to be all the brush you'll ever need by people who know far more about brushes than me. So if I were you I'd head to the EJ as I'd always feel a little curious about how much worse it was than the EJ if I got the Tweezerman product and I'd end up with the EJ as well. Just my 2c

I do have a Tweezerman, it was (and still is) my first badger brush and I love it, it's very good. I'm waiting for my finest badger LiJun & 1980. I think I won't use boars anymore.

that's exactly what I was thinking... Tweezerman seems such a great deal but...

EJ IT IS!
thx

I've been using an EJ BB medium black for over two months and I can tell you you will not be disappointed. It was my first badger and it works great with soaps or creams. A newbie like me had no problems getting a great lather every time. I got it online at Fendrihan.com, a Canadian website.
