That sounds a lot like olfactory fatigue to me, you smell it enough your senses stop registering anything about it, but if left and returned to later your senses register it clearly. I have one soap that I enjoy the smell, but it causes fatigue so I can only use it for a week at a time and then have to take a break. It's weird because it's not necessarily that the smell is objectionable, it's due to the chemistry in the fragrance. Sometimes there is a an objectionable component to the smell and the fatigue can work in your favour.

Today a parcel dropped through the mailbox. I am the lucky one (I hope) to be one of a few testers for a razor maker from Sweden to test some of his razor(s). Though they are 3D printed, I am looking forward to giving them a test! We are not allowed to share our test results yet, but once we are, I'll make sure I will let you know.

I See @dawid is active here as well, didn't even know that ;-)

Today was a back-to-normal day. After having used the test razors the last 2 times, it was time to pull out a familiar razor. Since I skipped yesterday's shave, there was some work to be done today. So I took out the Karve OC. This plate seems mild, which it is, but still very effective (for my face and beard). Actually I could have called it a day after 2 passes, but it felt so great I added another one (so I can skip tomorrow again).

I think this was one of the smoothest shaves with a (near-) BBS result. A perfect start of the week. I am sure the Westman shaving soap and AS were a big part of it too. They leave the skin very well taken care of, great stuff.

Used one of @dawid 's test razors again today, this time the t9 head. Can't say anything yet about the shave though, will follow later.

I love this soap and AS, recently bought it from a fellow Dutch forum member. I must admit, I only have 5 soaps currently, but I don't want to get rid of any of them (MdC Nature, SV Mirto and Argania, Westman Shaving Nirvana and a Proraso Green tube for holidays). Tried lots of them, but am happy with my current collection.

Last Saturday, we had a meeting with a few fellow shaving loonies in the Netherlands. We try to come together once a year for a few hours, and do nothing else than stick our noses in soaps, look at razors, talk about shaving, etc. This time, we all brought some of our stuff along for others to sniff or perhaps buy. And boy, were there a lot of goods on the giveaway table. We all donated stuff we didn't use anymore, so others can try.

Furthermore, our host did his utmost best with some artisans / suppliers to donate some goods, so we could also have a lottery and there were prizes for each and everyone. I was the lucky one to be on the receiving end of the Bastardo soap and AS from Westman shaving. And I know from experience (I have the Nirvana set as well), that it is top notch soap. I have to get used to the smell (some say it is the best bay rum soap there is), but I had the same with the Nirvana set.

All in all, it was a very pleasant meeting, good to see some guys again and meet some new ones, and it is great to see that such an every day thing can unite people and make the differences disappear. I am already looking out for next year's meeting.

ps: after reading some very good reviews of the TFS red here, I asked around, and sure enough I received a new tub from one of the guys.
ps2: the Oumo brush with G5 knot has the group logo on it, very happy to have been able to purchase that one
ps3: I got the HC&C Almighty en TFS Tobacco Verde Forte for free as well. I very much liked the smell of the first one (never seen it before) and the TFS had been on my must try list for a long time already.
ps4: the Tech was for free too, I want to use it as my holiday razor. It is the heavy version. Already shaved 2 times with it.... great little razor!

This morning I tried a sample set, the Los Jabones De Joserra - Rodrigo De Jerez soap and after shave. I received it last weekend during the shave meeting here.

While I love the soap, both in lather and scent, the after shave gave me a severe sting after applying. It increased for a while, then settled down. It all took about a minute. Luckily my skin reacted normally, no signs of it. But it wasn't a pleasant feeling at all.
It was a pity, I really like the smell of the AS as well. But I binned the splash, and will only use the sample soap for another 2 or 3 times until it is finished. And I am sure it wasn't the razor or blade, they are a well know factor for me.

This morning I tried a sample set, the Los Jabones De Joserra - Rodrigo De Jerez soap and after shave. I received it last weekend during the shave meeting here.

I had a Jabones de Joserra soap in my stash for a while (Kilix). After a few shaves I also concluded that the fragrance was just too strong for my skin to handle. The base seemed good, but I never really got to test it fully because of the reaction - it made my skin go red and it seemed to make it super-senstive to the blade. The effect would last most of the day. I had to move it on.

I will see the next time if the soap only gives me the same reaction. I don't think so, because today I only noticed it after applying the after shave. But who knows...... I have heard others who tried the same sample who got (a little) irritation from the soap too...

Today I had a lovely shave. I used the Tech again which I got at a recent shave meeting. This little razor (I owned several before too) makes me wonder why I keep chasing other razors. To a higher level even why we spend way more money on a razor, while this one is every bit as good? But hey, I am not a saint, and the search is part of the shaving fun in my case. But this one certainly earns it's reputation and popularity.

The brush however is not my favorite. I have noticed that the high density knots are just not my thing. I had a Oumo with Rorschach 2-band finest badger knot, and now this Oumo with a G5 SHD knot. And I don't like both. They certainly are very comfortable and have soft tips, but the backbone and density is too much for me. And I don't like the fact that the soap is being held on the outside of the knot (mostly on the sides), not in or on top of the knot. So I am doubting to let it pass on, or let someone change the knot for me. Since it is a group buy brush with the smiley logo on the bottom, I wouldn't mind having a knot in it that I like more.

And this soap I don't see often in the sotds. Plenty of other SV soaps, but not the Mirto di Sardegna. And no idea why, I really love it, both performance (as all SV soaps) and scent. Fresh, not too heavy, good stuff.

I finally took the time again to take a photo. But then you need to pull out the correct head to the correct handle.... it is one of those days. I did use the CB head for the shave, but it was too much trouble to take another photo. By the way, which razor head is in the photo?

This soap certainly is one of the best in quality. Very easy to generate a rich lather. This scent is great too! You don't need much of the aftershave for a long lasting scent!

Almost everything was low budget, but certainly not low quality. I find I get more satisfaction from getting great results from cheap stuff, than getting great results from the more expensive ones. Must be my Dutch heritage, no idea. Apart from the razor and blade, everything else used was dirt cheap, but resulted in an excellent shave.

This soap is just lovely. Especially in Europe you can get it very cheap, as well as the brush. Talking about that brush, I recently bought and sold two Oumo brushes, one with badger knot, one with G5 synthetic knot. This brush beats both of them easily. Way more comfortable, hold water and soap much more predictable, and releases it from the top of the brush. Will buy again, that is for sure.

All in all very happy with this shave. Next budget shave, I will use my Gillette Tech, also a gift. With at least the same results, I am sure.

This was the 2nd time I used this soap and AS combination. Not like anything else I have, but boy, I like it. My wife says she smells like a chocolate thing, I smell herbs (clove mostly) and some sweetness (and alcohol) underneath. Anyhow, love this stuff! And what is adding to that joy, is the fact that I won it in a lottery during a shaving meeting with some fellow loonies ;-)

I used this blade one time too often, it was not up to the task of removing 2 days stubble today. Normally all my blades reach my "5 time" goal, but this one couldn't. New blade starting tomorrow!

This afternoon I'll be changing my car's winter tires for the summer tires, always a good sign ;-)
