Can you remember your first shave?

$IMG_0405.JPG

Hello gents.
Just write down a brief description of your first shave if you can remember!
What razor did you use?
How did it feel?
And what did you learn from it?

For me it was New Years Eve 1985, I was 16 with a light fluffy moustache and was about to go to the local disco to pick up a girl. I felt the tache would cramp my style given the night that was ahead. I was both nervous and shy about asking my father for help but knew I had to start somewhere. I boldly approached my father and said "I want to shave this off" He said with a grin "Ok" and gave me a Gillette GII. I hit the bathroom sink and steamed it up with a hot cloth, rubbed some canned goo on it and did my first ever WTG on my poor old moustache, I had no other facial hair at this stage! When it was over my lip felt weird and cold, but smooth and that was it. Job done. By the way, I didn't pull a girl that night!

My first shave was probably 1983-4 range w/ an electric. Nothing notable to speak of that I can recall. First wet shave was a few years later, some crappy disposable & canned goo (probably generic Barbasol). I was so paranoid of cutting myself I think I barely touched my face w/ the razor.

Like it was yesterday. Grandfather....... straight razor (I have and use that razor at least once per week), chipped Old Spice mug with either OS or Williams soap, old well used boar with a wooden handle, hot pan of water.... outside under a huge oak tree on the farm.

It was 1989 with my older brother and father, a can of edge, Gillette Atra II and English Leather aftershave. I'm very nostalgic all of a sudden

I don't really remember the very first shave. It was with a DE - I believe a hand-me-down 60's SuperSpeed. This would have been in 1982, I believe (15). I shaved that way through most of my youth, then switched back and forth between DE and Electric over the years until going back to DE with a vengeance when I discovered this place last year. For most of those 20 years, I DE shaved with a G1000, which I still have. No one taught me how to do it, I just picked it up and learned on my own. My dad is just sort of like that - gave me the razor and said "go to it, son" I appreciate that actually, as I've learned how to just dive into things myself, and pave my own way :). I used canned goo (Barbasol mostly) though..didn't know any better.

Edit. Oh yeah, I do remember one other thing - the AS. English Leather Lime.

It was the fall of 1996, first week of being a Freshman in a Catholic/Private High School, and I was 14. I was walking down the hall to my class and a nun stops me and tells me I need to report to the office immediately because I have too much facial hair. At the office, the Dean hands me a Gillette single blade disposable razor and a small hotel size bar of soap and tells me to go the bathroom and shave. I remember rubbing the bar of soap on face and actually noticing for the first time how much facial hair I had; it's not like I had a full grown beard or anything, but having black hair, it was definitely noticeable. So after my shave I had to go back and let the Dean recheck my face, and give me two days of detention for having facial hair, lol. So now that I was forced to shave, I picked up a Schick 3 bladed razor, but I hated every shave for the next 12 years. Then about 3 years ago my mom and were talking and she mentioned how my grandfather used to wear Aqua Velva and shave with a Gillette DE. Then I found this place, and the rest is history :001_smile

My father is not a wet shaver. My first shave involved him helping me knock down my peach fuzz with the clipper guard of his electric shaver. Mainly the sideburns and goatee area. That was probably 1990 and I was fourteen.

Do I remember my first shave? You bet I do.

Back in the early '50s at age 4, I decided that I wanted to shave one day - so I went into the bathroom and grabbed my fathers DE w/o anyone knowing.

I cut myself all to heck. My face sported several good size bandaids for a while. Since I was pre-school age, my mother took me to the grocery store one day for the weekly shopping. Because it was mid-day on a weekday, there weren't many people shopping, mainly retirees and some housewives. I do remember that no one said anything, but there were a lot of nods and knowing smiles. Even at age 4, I was really embarassed --as was my mother (who was also mad as hell about this).

I don't have any scars to show for that adventure, just some foggy memories.

I'm a much better shaver today.

Nope. Far too long ago. I'm guessing mid-late '50s. Would have been with either an injector or a DE. I suspect the former.

Mine wasn't nearly as long ago as you old farts :001_tongu! It was 2002, I was 15 and had a dirty looking little mustache forming. I awkwardly approached my dad and asked him about shaving. He said he would teach me but since he always wore a mustache he couldn't show me exactly how to do it. It was a three bladed shick and a can of gilette goo! Took all of 3 wtg passes and I didn't have to shave it off again for at least a week! My how times have changed.

Well golly gee..... a little shaver! hehehehehehe Yeah we old farts have been at it for decades! LOL

Sorry.... just couldn't resist!

All in good fun! Now that I am "enlightened" I wish I had been shaving in the old days when razors were still cool!

I know it was with a Sensor Excel and a green can of Gillette Goo BUT I can't tell when :-/ Somewhen in 1997, I know that the Mach 3 wasn't around at the time.

My very first shave. Remington Electric. I think I was in the 8th grade. It tingled like crazy. First few shaves were with an electric and then moved into wet shaving.

I think so, i was going to some sort of event and decided i had too much peach fuzz on my upper lip.
I then grabbed a random disposable razor in my bathroom and without hesitation or any shaving cream i went at it.
In the process i got a huge cut under my nose that would not cease its bleeding. I was then very self conscience
about it and had a horrible day.

No.

I know it was a Gillette cart and Barbasol because we had a cache in the hall closet for my dad. Don't remember the event itself.

I do not remember the exact details of the first shave, but I was given a Schick adjustable injector razor on x-mas back in 1965, so it was that razor that provided my first shave, most likely on December 26, 1965. I would have been 13 years old and had a pretty good peach fuzz beard going, and since I had such dark hair, that peach fuzz would have shown. As for the shave cream, it would have been the canned aerosol stuff that my dad was using at that time, most likely Old Spice or some other cream with a nice aroma. As an after shave, chances are good that it was either Old Spice or Aqua Velva. I used that Schick injector for a very long time until I decided to try a straight razor and lost that Schick someplace. I remember that the Schick felt good in my hand and provided a pretty good shave.
