Can you emulate a slant?

It is my understanding that a slant razor really does a really good job of shaving due to the "slicing" nature of the way a Slant works. But I got to wondering if a person could technicaly "emulate a slant" with any of the DE razors by simply turning the head slightly? (i.e. N-S stroke with the head angled NW-SE)

Or is there really more to it than that?

The Slant does its thing by virtue of the difference in the gap between the blade and the safety bar, not the actual direction of the blade. The thing you're describing sounds like a recipe for disaster to me. Then again, people do the Gillette slide, so who knows? I would advise against trying the angled blade, thing, just go ahead and pick up a slant.

Not exactly. The way the razor bends the blade it exposes the blade more at one side. Think of a guillotine. Same principle. Slant fans I could use some help.

Yes, the slide can emulate the cutting style of the slant, but makes me wince just watching it. You're never far from sit-com style blood-letting hilarity IMO.

Angling your head will just makes it cut slighty off, so instead of cutting say WTG, you might be going more XTG.

But you can't replicate the difference in gap between one end of the slant and the other. Some may say that's a good thing.

The Gents above are right, Gillette Slide should emulate the slant...

However, a slant is a slant and the gillette slide is the gillette slide... You have less chances to cut yourself with a slant!

Ok, so from what I gather, it kind of emulates a slant to some degree, but not completely doing what a slant does.

I guess I've tried this Gillette Slide (actualy without seeing this video yet) with no problems. It seems to help in a couple spots for me.

Anyway, one of these days I may have to see about getting a slant to try out. That may be a while yet, but something to look toward.

The slant is generally regarded as an aggressive razor. With that being said aggressive is not always bad. In some cases it's just what the the doctor ordered. That was the case with me. I had some areas that were tough. The slant really helped me with this because it cut the margin of error. By doing a N/S stroke with the blade already slanted you do more with a single stroke. Reducing the number of passes and touch up. So those tough areas need less attention which led to less irritation. It works good for some people. Especially if you have areas where your hair grows in a few different directions. Worth a try and you can still do a Gillette slide or any of those other techniques with any razor you feel comfortable with.

Definitely worth a try.:thumbup1:
