What's new

Can somebody help tell me what I've got here.

Good evening

I was wondering if somebody could give me a bit of assistance in giving me some details about the cut throat razor I have recently received? It's a Joseph Rodgers, (I have read up a bit but would appreciate some assistance from those in the know)...I purchased it for £8.50 on ebay. Does it look any good? I am wanting to get it cleaned up, however, I am complete novice on the cut throat razor scene...

Thanks in advance

Benjamin

Pictures are from the ebay sale, I can take some others if required.

Looks to have quite a bit of hone wear, but otherwise in good shape, I say hone it up (or get it honed up) and it should shave just fine!!

Maybe post some other pictures that are larger on here, I can't really make out what the tang says or small details. However, it looks like there is a lot of hone ware, especially at the toe. There should be life left in it though.

Someone was a two fisted honer and used a lot of pressure on the toe honing. It will still take a nice edge though and Joseph Rodgers made some of the finest Sheffield steel razors so it should still serve you well.

I agree, they're great razors and that one has a lot of life yet.

Thanks everybody for the messages and advice, it is very much appreciated. I will look at getting it cleaned up and honed. Is somebody able to tell me a rough age of this razor?

I haven't had a chance to get any better pictures taken yet.

Does the 'The Rodgers' engraving have an significance?

Thanks again.

Benjamin

My guess is around 1900 give or take 50. Maybe it was a flagship model since it caries the same surname. But then again dovo's Best doesn't appear to be their best either.
