What's new

Can anyone recommend a small humidor.

You have a lot of options. Cheaphumidors.com is one. Cigarbid.com often has decent 50 ct humidors for $20 or less. The Quality Importers stuff on Amazon can be somewhat hit or miss.

Regardless of the humidor you purchase, I'd recommend a digital hygrometer. The analog ones look pretty, but they're often way off and impossible to adjust. You can pick up a digital one online for $10-$20 pretty easily - just be sure to get one that's adjustable and calibrate it using the salt test [google it].

For humidification, I don't really like the foam pucks that come with most humidors. Beads from Heartfelt Industries or at the very least a bead jar from Xikar or something similar tend to work better and are less likely to fill up with mold than the sponge foam inside the standard pucks/bricks.

Assuming you go the CigarBid or CheapHumidors route, it shouldn't be too hard to get all of this for $50 or very close to it.

Im a firm believer in you get what you pay for...so im not expecting much. But since I recently started this hobby I need something to store my newly aquired cigars in.

I've heard you can make your own humidor with tupperware or a cooler and then adding a hydration device. Its an interesting idea, however I would prefer something that looks nice and I can display in my living room. Ive come to realize that the humidors under $50.00 are all pretty much the same. Probably made in China, cedar inside and a fake wood veneer on the outside, external hygrometers that look nice but really have no function(since they have an incorrect reading). Thanks for the tips guys. Ill defintely look at getting a digital hygrometer and some hydration beads no matter which humidor I decide on.

I'm with you on the coolers and tupperware options. I wanted my humidor to look nice. When I'm presenting options for a friend to try, I want the box to look nice - not some random tupperware. I spent about $100 on my Savoy humidor and $20 on my hygrometer. It's not the nicest humidor out there, but it looks nice and its holding humidity for me so I'm happy with it. If I ever get to the point where I need a giant coolerdor, I'll probably just skip it and go for a wineador since they look much nicer - and I might even need some cooling to regulate temps due to the hot summer climate around here.

Cheaphumidors or the cigarbid cheapies will work just fine - especially if you'll only be storing <20 sticks.

This is my setup for my infused cigars. Slightly better looking than tupperware but not as nice as a nice humidor. $10 jar from bed bath and beyond and a few free water pillows my B&M gives out and some left over cedar sheets from boxes that I have bought in the past.

I think Boris watched alot of MacGuyver :thumbup1:

I have the third humidor you posted. I got it from cigarsinternational.com for about the same price as Amazon, but with 10 cigars in it. It worked really well the first little while I had it, but then the cedar lip that 'seals' the humi warped, letting too much air circulate. I just ran a bead of wood glue between the two pieces, clamped it and secured it with a short screw. It now holds steady at about 70%, plus or minus a little. The hygrometer is off by about 7% on mine, based on a salt calibration test. I use bovedia packs in mine and it all is well. Season it well and keep an eye on warping lips and it will serve you nicely. I would recommend a digi hygrometer, just to ensure you're where you want to be.

Check out Craigslist in your area... I often see nice ones for cheap on mine. Occasionally I have seen 'em at local thrift stores too.

I'm looking for a small humidor that holds around 25-50 cigars. Don't want to spend a lot, really no more than $50.00. Will I be able to find anything decent in my price range?

Here are a couple im considering:

Thanks.

What did you end up with?

If u end up with the jar humidor boveda packs would b an easy humidification or a tube of heartfelt beads. Also one of those xikar hydro meters that u can stick on the inside of the lid.

I still browsing and haven't made up my mind yet...too many choices.

I'm also thinking of making one of those little jar humidors(just seems like a fun/cheap project).

+1 Boris is right on as usual. I found a small box with a latch on it at a garage sale and did something similar.

Just bite the bullet and get a real humidor to start. They last forever, are easier to work with, and can hold more cigars comfortably than a jar. The jar can be nice to have around, but it will be a bit restricting to have as your only option.

If you do not want to spend the money right away, getting some humidification beads and a hygrometer would be a good start - that way you can temporarily use basically any container as a humidor while you mull over the other options. In the same way that Boro lined his jar with cedar wrap, I think there is merit to buying a few Spanish Cedar blocks/sections from a woodworking store to drop into whatever temporary container you use.

Btw if u end up buying Spanish cedar blocks be sure they are kiln dried...I've come across some that after sitting awhile sap would start coming to the surface.

Whatever you end up with just b sure to try and get something as airtight s possible.

im also would recommend and nicer humidor than you think you would need, as you might end up needing it rather quickly if your like me. But hopefully we gave you enough ideas and options in different price ranges for you to chose from.

Well I ended up getting this one today. Its cheap enough that if its not that great I can just use the box for something else.

Also picked up some hydration crystals..like you guys recommended. A Bonveda calibration pack(unknown if that was really needed or not), a Xikar digital hygrometer, Stinky(that's a brand) ash-tray, and a nice sampler pack of cigars http://www.famous-smoke.com/famous+5+star+sampler+cigars/item+37879 (it was only $20 bucks not $60 plus because I bought a humidor).

Looking forward to trying the humidor out. Thanks for the suggestions...I bought a small humidor because im just starting out and can always upgrade to a bigger one if I get into cigars more.
