What's new

Bulldog Blues

So, I recently won a lot on ebay of three razors, the most anticipated of which is the Bulldog. The only problem is that it has a knob from a different razor (I think a Bostonian). I'll be pretty happy with it as long as it shaves well, but I'd still like to have a knob on it that either looks like it should, or that is an actual bulldog knob. What I'd like to know is:
A. What are the chances of finding someone willing to sell/trade the knob I have for a bulldog knob.
B. If that's a little unrealistic, is it plausible to find someone who would be able to make a replica knob that would look like it should.

Btw, I haven't actually received the razor in the mail yet, I've just been thinking about all this, and so this is more of a cumpulsive "I have to know" kind of questions lol.

I believe this is what it should look like http://www.j-duwe.de/Rasierer/Old%20Type/1918 Military Set.jpg

Nice score!! (on all the razors! you will love the sheraton!)

I would be happy to make a replica knob if you can't find one. Shoot me a PM if you decide to go that route.

Just a wild shot in the dark guess but will the knob from a Bull Mastiff work with a Bulldog?
Not exactly the same as original but closer than the one thats on it now.

So that's who won it, glad to see it went to another B&B member. :001_smile

I hope you can find or have fabricated a satisfactory replacement, that razor should be restored to its former glory.

I saw that and was wondering about the far right one.
It doesn't even look like it could be a DE to me, that handle looks curved like you might see in an SE.

So do yall think it would even be realistic for me to look for an actual bulldog knob? or should I just head straight to the other route?

Somehow I can't imagine that you'll easily find a bulldog knob. I suspect the most realistic option would be to have one made.

One never knows what one will find (who might be looking for the knob you are getting? BTW, I don't think it's a Bostonian knob, looks like a different pattern -I recall seeing something about one of the fancier razors with the "perforated" pattern being different at the knob, seems like this may be one).

I'd suggest having one made for the short term solution (unless you can be happy with the knob you are getting), then keeping a sharp eye out for a mismatch you may someday find (not out of the question, there were a lot of Bulldogs made over the years).

The damn thing is cracked!!!! and the Bostonian is missing one of its teeth!... Oh well, they'll still shave fine =D
