Broke My Georgetown Scuttle

I just wanted to take a minute to lament. I broke my Georgetown Pottery scuttle this morning. It's presently in four irrepairable pieces and thanks to the Summer of Gentlemanly Restraint, I will not be purchasing a new one until at least September.

Spit and duck tape works wonders ya know :)

Sorry to hear of your loss. Nested stainless steel bowls are often found in the kitchen...

There was plenty of spit. :) No duct tape yet. I'm not sure how SWMBO would feel about a duct taped scuttle in her bathroom.

Ouchy. I broke my porcelain EJ bowl about a month after I got it. I feel you pain. Got a G20 scuttle myself. I can't imagine what I'd do without it.

Look up 'kintsugi' on here and Google; a member here repaired a tea bowl a while back and it came out really nice. If you can pull it off with the scuttle, you'll definitely have a unique piece.

Thanks for the kind words for my loss. :)

It was a G5. I have decided to invest in some high quality epoxy and spend the better portion of my Saturday morning attempting to repair this former thing of beauty. Should I fail, there will be weeping.

Additionally, I have to say that as always, I am astounded by the showing of gentlemanly kindness which constantly permeates from this forum. I received an incredibly generous PM from a stand up member on here offering to let me borrow a scuttle until the SOGR passes. If I can't repair mine, I'm definitely taking him up on his offer. Hats off to you prsman23.

Sorry to hear your scuttle went south. I think this is a fairly common event. You have the fragile ceramic item operating in a hard porcelain sink and hard tile floor environment. And then there's the hard porcelain toilet nearby. I can see why guys buy those rubber mugs.

Ouch!

I know my heart would break if my Becker broke.

FWIW, I put down rubberized squares of shelf liner where I will be placing my scuttle. May not help, but it sure feels better and safer.

I have a G5. So I share your pain. When you get the epoxy it might help if you get the quick setting version. If you get regular you might have to hold the pieces in place while they set and they might "slip" just a bit as the glue is setting. The quick set obviously will set much more quickly. Just make sure to fit the pieces together tightly right from the start. Once it sets there's no taking it apart again.
