Bowl in this set, what would it be for?

Hi badgers and bladers,

http://www.leesrazors.com/products/Merkur-%22Barber-Pole%22-Brush-and-Razor-Set.html

I'm thinking of getting the brush in this set but have a quick question about the bowl in the picture.

What would that be for? Is that bowl for lathering? I bowl lather and find that the bigger the bowl the better, what's the general consensus on bowl size for lathering.

My guess is that would be to hold your puck, but not necessarily good for building lather... It's hard to tell from the pic

Too small for bowl lathering.

It's just a fancy bowl for holding your soap puck, which makes it a waste of money.

Most kits tend to be overpriced, and feature a product, or two you wouldn't purchase yourself if you were buying individual products.

Most of the time, you are far better off making your own kit out of products you hand pick yourself.

About 2 years ago, here in Europe, Merkur/Dovo began delivering these frosted glass bowls instead of their nice stainless/satin bowls...to cut on the intern'l metal costs/expand their profits?I don't know... That said those nice metal bowls are no longer made and the few still available are just until the end of store stocks.

Owning myself one Futur 4 pcs-set (bowl included) what can i say about this glass bowl? Nice to hold a IK puck but to small to get nice lather. Space for lathering is nonexistent, the lather will flow outside on fingers and there is no enough room to operate freely ( 9.3 cm | 3.7 inch. diameter).

Another thing is the depth, too much: the metalic knot (remember a Futur silvertip brush), or better said, the collar of your brush (when swirling) will knock the edges of your bowl, with a noisy clin cling. If pressing on puck up and down motion is worse.I don't no, if along the years and with regular use and hits on the edges, some chips of glass will be broken...To prevent this kind of shock you will need to handle your brush by the collar, three fingers (as chicken paw) around to prevent shocks or acting as absorbers between glass and metalic collar, meaning your brush wouldn't open as a fan as wished because you're holding it at hair base wich leads you to an inferior lather, because water is non flowing at heart of the brush such as air.

Other thing too, i never figured if the frosted was made by mechanical means (such as a dremel when engraving glass or abrasion) or a simple plastic foil sticked around.

This bowl is more for eyes feast than utilitarian. Always worried not to hit the glass edge, when the lather starts to build it will go to fingers. Handling it around always with care (it's glass) following a protocol as it was a virus being handled: soapy hands, hard sink, breakable glass...:mad3: It's a bunch of worries each morning!! Being the price here about € 30/35 for a simple glass bowl i don't know if it's a bargain and thinking about these constraints...As a first bowl i will not recommend it.

But i would like to hear other opinions...

It's so you can have your Cheerios while your shaving.

Or you could put your puck of soap in it.

Thanks guys, looks over functionality. So it's a soap bowl! That makes more sense now. Not sure how I would feel eating my cheerios out of a bowl that said Merkur on it, haha. Brush is still beautiful though!!
