What's new

Blue Cheese

Today, I used for the first time, a puck of SCS lemon cedarwood that was gifted from SCS as part of a recent purchase. Upon opening, it had a weird smell that I thought would change with the addition of water. That scent became more intense upon lathering, and it really smelled like blue cheese. Lather was thin too. I imagine this might have been old stock. I shall not be adding to the rotation. It really does smell like old blue cheese.

I probably will just to let them know. I did not pay for it, as it was a gift from a recent purchase, so I am not very upset about it, but still, it really does smell like blue cheese!:117:

I'm all acronym'd out here on the B&B too too many...(Hey, was that an acronym?)

Saint Charles Shave, an AMAZING seller.

For about $20.00 you can get 7 or so really good sized samples of their amazing after shave creams/balms/milks.

Most of us love SCS, and this had to be some weird fluke.

In my experience, SCS has excellent customer service. I think they would want to know about this, even if you aren't seeking to return it. They stand behind their products.

I do love SCS products, and the others I have purchased have been first rate and excellent values. That is why I think this may be old stock gone bad.

They are on vacation. I am going to save the soap if they want me to send it to them to see what happened. I am sure that the gang at SCS will stand behind everything they sell. I hope no one thinks I am trashing them, as that was not the intent of the op. This is just so bizarre, that I had to post it.

It's kind of funny, and I'm sure it will be set right. Honestly, I wouldn't lather with it, though. Depending on how the soap is made, it's possible to go rancid.

Thats the purpose (one of them anyway) of the forum, to post your personal thoughts, likes and dislikes of items for others to learn from and judge for themselves. Just yesterday I posted here about a round of soap that didn't smell like what I had hoped (coconut) and smelled like medicine instead (to me.) I posted that I threw that soap away after one use. No harm, no foul but my (and now your) own honest personal opinion. I don't think anyone would expect anything else except our true opinions, right?

If anything, 5 or 6 of us just said how much we love them. BTW, I didn't think you were trashing them.

You are correct.

I just like to tread with caution when it comes to a well known reputable vendor that most people seem to like. There is a large readership here on B&B, and perhaps more who read and do not join. One of the things that distinguishes B&B is that there is a general consensus that we act as gentlemen here, and thankfully, this site is free of much of the flaming and abuse that goes on elsewhere on the web. That said, I prefer to be both fair and respectful to a vendor, and try to keep in mind that others read, and may be influenced by what is said here. Better to keep a tight rein on things than to cause needless harm to others.

That's very odd. I haven't PH tested a glycerin soap, but traditional soap tends very high for PH. 7.5-9. Not an ideal spot for mold. Maybe if someone left it in standing water and continually refilled for weeks without using it? Honestly though, I'd be more inclined to suspect it's a subconscious olfactory association of yours.

THANK YOU! for saving this soap because we would love to have it returned, shipping on us, of course.

The only cedarwood we gave as a complimentary addition to orders was pure Cedarwood EO, which was made specifically for this purpose and was new stock. We've never made a lemon cedarwood to my recollection. I would like to inspect both the scent and lathering inability. PM on the way with return info.
