Bloody Mary Variations

A while back I had a bloody mary, but instead of hot sauce I believe it had dijon mustard or some such in it. Has anyone heard of this/have a recipe for it? I'm not one for spice, but I really liked this drink and would appreciate any help with nailing down the recipe.

Also, I've heard of bloody mary's with bourbon. Anyone have a particularly good recipe for this as I'm much more a fan of bourbon than vodka.

Thanks!

Could it have been horseradish? More than likely that's what it was, if you want to make it at home I would make sure you buy straight horseradish not prepared. It's harder to find but worth it. I don't know that I would like a Bloody with Bourbon, but that's the good thing about this particular cocktail you can kind of make it any way you want. I have had all different kinds of bloody's including some made with passion fruit juice. My favorite recipe is made with

Clamato, Black pepper, straight horseradish, lemon juice (fresh), Worcestershire sauce, Vodka, dry dill, a dash of A1 sauce, and salted rim. For something other than celery garnish I like pickled okra or green beans. Enjoy!

SWMBO and I have always enjoyed our bloody mary's with spicy hot V8, worcestershire sauce, celery salt, horseradish, cracked black pepper, and plenty of vodka. Garlic stuffed olives as a garnish. This is our preparation before shopping at Walmart on Sunday. :thumbup1:

I like bourbon, but a Bloody Mary with it sounds disgusting! Anyways, vodka is usually used in cocktails like this where you don't want any contribution from the spirits (ie neutral spirits)

I like putting in a dash of Old Bay and salting the rim with a mixture of Old Bay, cracked pepper and kosher salt. A splash of lime livens it up too.

Oriental Mary ... whisk a blob of wasabi into a little of the tomato juice and stir into the rest ... spice and flavour as needed.

Similar to the more-known horseraddish Mary

Around our house we mix using V8(spicy or regular), lots of Tabasco, celery salt, Worchester Sauce, cracked black pepper, Horse Radish (ground not the prepared spread), splash of Lime juice and most importantly...lots of Tequila.. Garnish with your favorite Hot Peppers, Celery, etc.
Wasabi sounds interesting. Gotta try working that into the recipe.

Instead of Tabasco, try Sriracha sauce (aka "****" sauce). It's a Thai hot-sauce that adds spice and a little more depth of flavor than Tabasco (although I love the stuff). Also, I like pepper infused vodka, Absolut seems to have stopped making theirs, so I now make my own.

Other than that I'm standard: good bloody mix, worcestershire sauce, garlic salt, horseradish, cracked pepper, fresh lemon juice, etc....

I'm not about to try the bourbon bloody anytime soon, but tequila sounds intriguing.

My preference is the Bloody Caesar. I nice twist on the recipe. This one is from the Food Network and is very nice.

3 tablespoons plus 1/2 teaspoon celery salt, divided
1 lime, quartered
3 tablespoons freshly squeezed lime juice
24 ounces canned clamato juice
2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon hot pepper sauce
1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
1 teaspoon freshly grated, or bottled horseradish (optional)
6 ounces vodka (I use Absolut Peppar)

Directions
Place 3 tablespoons celery salt in a thin layer in a small dish or shallow bowl. Take empty serving glasses and moisten their rims with a lime wedge. Dip rims in celery salt to coat. Shake off excess.

In a pitcher, mix lime juice, Clamato juice, Worcestershire, hot pepper sauce, pepper, remaining celery salt, horseradish and vodka. Stir. Pour into glasses over ice. I garnish with pickled okra.
