Black Beauty with missing date code?

I'm looking for a '70 or an '81, and I found a black beauty on ebay that seems to be missing a date code...


The pics show the plate where the date code should be, but it seems missing. I contacted the seller, and they are not seeing one stamped anywhere, either.

Anyone have any thoughts? Am I blind or looking in the wrong place? I thought they were on the bottom side of the razor tray by the Gillete logo...

If the razor in question has the all-metal head then it should have a date code where you're looking. If it has the head that's part plastic the date code should be on the inside of the head beneath where the blade sits. I seem to recall someone posting about a razor with the metal adjustment plate that was date coded in both places -- as if it were a crossover piece made around the time of the change from one to the other, but I don't think I've ever heard of anyone turning one up that was completely uncoded.

Pictures of said razor for OP. I don't see anything... I'm at work so can't compare it to my own to see where they should be.

Yeah, it's the all metal head... wonder if one slipped through the stamping machine and got boxed up then... Having worked in factories, it's not at all unlikely to have that happen once in a while...

I can't make out a number in that one shot, but I'm reasonably sure I see a year code there -- looks like a U or maybe an O.

That is where it should be located. There might be enough "crud" to hide it in the pic and from the seller

If you are looking for a special code, don't gamble on one that you can't read the code on.

There were a LOT of SA razors made (long and short handle). Take your time and find what you want in the condition you want it in.

They made them in long and short?? My RAD did not need to know that... Looks like another to add to the list if I want one of each made in my birth year...
