Birth year razor conundrum

Many of the members here are always in search for their birth year Gillette. I figured I would jump on board and start the hunt for mine. I figured I'd search for a superspeed. Welllll, there's one problem. This may show my youth, but my birth year is 1988. I'm pretty sure I'm relegated to either a Trac-II or Atra(Plus). I think they may have made DE's at the time. Has anyone seen an I-1,2,3 or 4 black handled SS? Perhaps I was just born too late.

I feel your pain. I would love a "birth year" razor. But as an 80's kid myself the selection is not all that great. Same with cars too. Seems we were born in a weird crossover period where everything kind of sucked. Although I imagine in a decade or so it will be a different story, when the 80's have had some time to mature.

I think if I was in your situation I would 'adopt' a year.

What was your father's birth year? Older brother? Favourite uncle? Maybe a grandfather?

If you can't inherit some family history then create some. I presume you know that the date codes finished in 1987 as shown in the wiki here.

Just had another thought, while you were born in 1988 depending on your DOB you may have been conceived in 1987? H3 or H4 anybody!

I'm fortunate enough to have a good birth year and have acquired a NOS set to give to me son (see here) but I can't see why you couldn't create your own history with a year of your choice.

I was also born in 88. I had considered the idea of an injector, but the appropriate model for the time period isn't very appealing. I had kind of given up on the idea, but will follow this thread to see what comes of it. Maybe Merkur has date codes, and had something in production at the time?

The products may have sucked, but the music was AMAZING!!!

The super adjustable was still being made in 1988 and will have an I date code.

They are not very common but it gives you something to look for

The best product of the 80's was the music! Man, music hasn't been the same since. Y'all couldn't have everything!

Besides the music, the second best product of the 80's was Amanda Righetti!

It amazes me how people are so eager to post in a forum that they don't read the thread to see if the information has already been presented......

But either way, Best of luck to the OP!

I'm also an 80's Child, (84) but I think we should look for "other" birth razors. Gillette are nice but by the looks of things, went for the plastic handles mid 70's up until the last produced Gillette DE razor in the 90's. I know Schick / Wilkinson Sword date there razors but what about Merkur (which went into mass production in the early 80's) and other brands?

**Off Topic**
Except from Razors, the 80's had some great things... Without them we wouldn't have Back to the Future, Top Gun, Planes Trains and Automobiles, The Flight of the Navigator, Goonies, Ghost Busters, The Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) Max Headroom, Thundercats, Knight Rider or the fantastic Ford Sierra RS Cosworth

I concur. I have birthyear razors for myself ('76), my father ('55), and grandfather ('27). For my sons, both born after 2000, there is no hope. But what I did for them, since their names both start with the letter J, is to get them both J-coded superspeeds.

Same issue OP, born in 86 and im on the hunt for a G-3/4 Black-handled Adjustable, but its not in the budget currently so no WTB/real searching anytime soon.

The '88 super speed that poped up on the BST is on its way to me now! I thought about the super adjustable, but the SS was my birth quarter. Thanks for the help guys!
