Billy Jealousy Shaved Ice?

This is fantastic stuff. Light, classy lemon scent with a powerful chilling sensation a minute or so after shaving, completely taking away any irritation without drying out my face. My skin is in much better condition as a result of this aftershave. I cannot recommend it highly enough.

Anybody besides me kinda suspicious about this glowing review given that it comes as the first post from this new member, just joined in July 09?

It seems to be his only post too. But i wouldn't be overly suspicious. Everyone has their opinions. I think that I'm going to try this AS eventually

Same here. I like lemon, but I'm going to wait until someone's not so proud of the stuff. There are cheaper ways to get superlative, mentholated A/S balms.

I've tried it, and I'm lukewarm on it. It's a decent gel-type aftershave, and has properties typical of that type of application: e.g., light moisturizing, a certain amount of tackiness. BJ seems a bit less tacky than other gels I've tried; the tradeoff is it has less moisturizing capability, as well. The cooling is so-so. What cooling is there comes from the inclusion of peppermint oil, which is pretty low on the ingredients list. Anybody used to the blast Aqua Velva or Proraso splashes deliver will find this stuff to be kid's play in comparison. As for the smell...I read a review that described the scent as that of a margarita, including the tequila; the reviewer said he smelled it once when he was hung over from tequila and the scent almost made him throw up. Noses differ, of course, but I agree with his take: sweet citrus with a dash of tequila thrown in. Is it worth 25 bucks? Not in my opinion. But there are worse aftershaves out there.

Thanks, Detective! You just sealed the deal for me. Gel? Wimpy cooling? I don't think so. I'm gonna grab a mentholated milk or balm.

You gotta hand it to them, Shaved Ice is a cool clever marketing title though. Its to the point, implies effectiveness & sounds appealing

I don't know...maybe I'm just cynical, or an old fart. (Can you be an old fart at 36?) But I am actually turned off by names that are clearly aimed to convince me of something. If Trumper called their rose shaving cream Floral Nirvana, I wouldn't like that either. It's bad enough that Trumper's ad copy for their coconut range features such drivel as, "Balmy, white bliss fresh from the blue skies of paradise, the delicate aroma of Trumper's coconut inspires nothing but pure, uplifting vitality." If the cream weren't so good, those words would be enough to make me not want to use it. Seriously. But I digress... I guess Shaved Ice is good marketing if the target segment is comprised of those who are swayed by such names, but I actually had to willfully overlook it - not to mention the moronic moniker "Billy Jealousy" - just to bring myself to try the stuff.

Precisely, actually now that you mentioned it detective, the fringe products do rely on the snappy zinger titles it seems

I got a pretty big sample from Nordstrom about a year ago. Good citrus scent, a lemon/grapefruit mix. It's cooling and calms irritation. It's not heavy at all, but it does moisturize a bit. The only downside is the price. To me it's not worth it.

These two opinions have swayed me.

Horatio had some greatly helpful input. The name I also think is stupid. Not Shaved Ice, but Billy Jealousy. What the Hell is that even supposed to mean? Jealousy is not a trait I associate with masculinity.

It is more gel like, as I remember (but it's been 3 years or so since I used it). I remember the cooling to be fantastic, especially on hot summer days. I found it would be sticky if you used even a tad too much, so finding the right amount was absolutely necessary. It went on easily, smelled great, and left my skin feeling soft and not oily (don't need oily, my skin does that on it's own ). Anyway, it's good stuff but I suppose it depends on what you want to spend. Personally, i'm using the SCS Dagger A/S Milk now and I love it. Expect a review of that soon as I'm getting close to 3 weeks with it.

Neither is Nancy Boy, I would imagine, but they do make some good products. What little I've tried from Billy Jealousy, however, I found less than impressive.

Hmm...that's not what I remember, but maybe I should try it again, just to see. Out of curiosity, at the time you tried it, had you used any mentholated products so you had a reference point for what was really cooling?

From these descriptions (gel-like, sticky if too much is applied, moderate cooling effect) it sounds a lot like EveryMan Jack Aftershave gel, which can be had at a much more reasonable price.

Billy Jealosy manufactures small sample packets for most of their products that should be available at the retailer that sells the products. I didn't care for the Shaved Ice, but I couldn't get past my personal sensitivity issues to give it an otherwise fair review. If you're interested, I suggest you pick up a sample and see for yourself if it's worth the price, particularly since it's not always easy to get samples of this type product, but you can with this one.
