Beware Of Fake PayPal Scam

Yesterday I received an email from the investigative dept of "Paypal" indicating they were aware of my problem and would like to correct it. The email tried to steer me to another so-call Paypal dept for correction. Of course I know I don't have a problem with Paypal so I referred it to my spam list.

This is definitely a fraud ring trying to get personal information

About a year and a half ago I used to get Paypal scam emails constantly... it hasn't happened to me in a long time though.

It's a good thing to remember that you'll always be addressed by name in an official Paypal email - not "Dear Paypal Member."

I read about this in a forum recently but I don't remember where (probably OCAU). Basically these guys try to chase up scams and block spam with isp's.

About: KnujOn is a multi-tiered response to Internet threats, specifically email-based threats. The success of this project is based on the cooperative efforts of business, government, law enforcement, security professionals, consumers, and average citizens. Knujon is a meeting point for all parties who wish to make the Internet a safer place. This multi-purpose e-fraud tool has significantly reduced junk mail traffic to various users and on the Internet in general. As more networks begin using KnujOn spam, phishing, and other threats will become issues of the past.

Basically you can send email like this to them so they're aware of it too. I don't know if there are other groups like this but just thought I'd let people know.

an ebay toolbar truely alrerts you to any bad emails or attempts to steal your info god I hate this damn keyboard, using my wifes computer

there!! I switched back to mine, how she uses a miniture keyboard is beyond me. Anyway, So long as you have a current browser if you open and then try to go to a link representing itself as paypal or ebay and its not it will display a warning, ask you to forward to ebay and alot of things lite up red. There, thats what I wanted to say before but it would have taken me an hour

Is that the scam or is PayPal itself the scam?

On a more serious note, never follow links in e-mails. Take a few seconds to type the address into your browser's bar and save yourself from loosing valuable information.

I receive those at least twice a month in some form. Don't click the link. Forward it to [email protected] - mark is a spam, or delete it and then delete or purge it from your deleted file. If you are ever in doubt about your account, just log in and check it.

+1 they also get the scam web site removed very quickly most of the time if it is reported.
