Bevel Setter Recommendations

So I have the Norton 4K/8K and I'm looking for a bevel setting stone. Would you guys recommend the DMT Duo-Sharp or Dia Sharp and what's the difference between the two? Also what grits should I look for? I'm thinking 600/1200 or should I get a single grit stone? I would like it to cost under $80 so if DMT isn't the answer what do you think would be an alternative? Thanks in advance for your help gentlemen!

Thanks for the recommendation! So do you use a slurry stone with it? It looks like this store ships it with a nagura http://www.chefknivestogo.com/nach10grwast.html

Also why do you recommend this stone above the DMT? It looks like it's about $16 or so more expensive than the DMT Duo-sharp I was looking at.

Agree with Rick, Chosera or Naniwa 1k. Both are virtually the same stone except the Chosera is thicker so will last longer. You can use your same lapping stone that you use for the Nortons on the Chosera or Naniwa. I have the Naniwa and don't use a slurry stone with it. It sets a fine bezel.

The DMT 600/1200 is great. Lately though I've been leaning on a big soft Arkansas stone. It's fast and polishes nicely, and about half the cost of a DMT.

+1 Chosera 1k, best feeling 1k I've ever used, the only synthetic stone in my progression with a rare dmt for major issues.

Is this the stone you have? http://www.amazon.com/Lansky-x2-Soft-Arkansas-Stone/dp/B001KN3OSG

Thanks everyone for the recommendations, keep them coming. I'm very new to honing and still have a ton to learn. I won't be doing a lot of honing, and once I get most of my bevels set unless something happens or I get into hobbyist territory or restoring razors, I won't use it much except to sharpen my kitchen knives. Which is why I started to question which bevel setter to actually get.

Chosera 1k is made by Naniwa.
It is not the same stone as a Naniwa Super Stone 1k - not even close.
It is thicker, but it's a completely different type of 1k.
I prefer the Chosera.
King 1k is a decent option.
The Shapton 1500x is closer to the Chosera in hardness and speed.
Nortom 1k is ok, usable.
I dislike DMTs for setting bevels but you never have to lap it.

I have a DMT 600/1200. It's nice, fast, easy to use and the Duo + bench deal that has been at amazon for years and years is a good value. Only other low grit hone I use with my razors is a 1200 vintage japanese synth (no idea who made it, but it's giant, red, and came with a ****load of damage to the corners I had to repair). I use it with razors I am mad at and want to make suffer by grinding though a muddy-gritty slurry. I imagine it's somewhat similar, though likely not as fast as a Chosera would be (older, probably lower quality and less abrasive I'd assume), if you don't think you'd like working off a plate, the low grit Japanese synths are pretty decent. I'd avoid something like a bench SS, these stones can wear pretty quickly, so if you're getting a stone over a plate, go for the thickest one you can afford.

On a impulse I bought a 1k Chosera. I don't do a lot of razors and I already had a Norton 1k so I really had no real good reason to buy this expensive (for a 1k stone) bevel setter. Suffered a little buyers remorse after I ordered it and considered returning it.

Then it arrived and I just had to try it out. All regret quickly disapeared. I now consider it the best money I have ever spent on hones. Can not recommend it enough.

Chosera is the standard by which the others are measured. Having said that, I used a King, and it worked fine, and cheaper.

Fast coticules with slurry work well too, and you can use them for more than just the bevel set.

I don't own a Lansky. I bought mine from Best linked above. They also have good prices on lapping film.

Ive tried the suehiro, chosera and dmt C/F. I love having the DMT and chosera around. But lately i want a lower grit chosera.

King 1K. It's a little soft but gets the job done, and at a fraction of the cost when compared to a Chosera 1k. I'm sure I'll get a Chosera at some point, but I still can't justify dropping $100 on a stone that I literally spend seconds with when setting a bevel. As all you have said, I'm sure it's worth the money, but it's still a bevel setter at a finishing stone price.
