Best way to store/preserve a razor

I've been thinking about possibly getting myself a few excellent grade "collectible" razors. I mean I'll still have to shave with it but maybe only on a special occasion or something like that. Assuming I find something exceptional, what is the best way to go about putting it into hibernation? Believe it or not I was thinking possibly vacuum sealing it, assuming there is a case it comes in. Is that a bit overboard? I was thinking if it was vacuum sealed there basically isn't much at all that can affect it right? I know things like leather cases and whatnot can get affected by things like humidity, cold, etc when they go through constant cycles of it over time. So am I crazy in my thinking or are there better ways to accomplish my goals?

It is common practice to store straight razors oiled up with camellia and/or mineral oil. The oils forms a protective barrier against air and moisture. I have a couple of NOS razors that are still in their original oiled up state and they look brand new.

Al raz.

Ballistol is a great product that cleans, preserves and lubricates, smells like anise, is totally non-toxic and has been used by the German military since WWI as a CLP for all weapons. It is good for leather and wood and in Europe is available as a topical medicine. It contains mineral oil and organic acids. Worth a look for this purpose.
