Best way to revive vintage strop?

As the title says gents, I picked up an old strop for pocket change today it is old and manky and a few shallow gouge lines in it, but apart from that it looks pretty decent.

it is embossed as an 'Aonian No. A289' Genuine Shell Horse.

I have an extremely old and pretty crappy straight that I stropped on it, and it has put some bite back into the blade, and it has done a better job than my newer strop, possibly because the leather is a lot more rigid on this old strop?

any suggestions on how to clean and prepare it for use?

many thanks in advance,

Rub it down good with saddle soap every day for a week or so. Then apply neats foot oil 2 or 3 times a month for the first year. Sand it down with 600 grit, if it needs it, but don't go too deep with it. Lots and lots of hand rubbing will help, too. Just rub with your hand, before stropping.

After all that medeival treatment, no telling what kind of draw you will end up with.
