"Best" Adjustable?

Well,

I want to try an adjustable and find a razor that I will shave most regularly with, and only occasionally shave with something else.

Of course, its a matter of opinion and such, but the word 'best' does not work in the search, so I am posting a thread.

I like razors with lighter/slimmer handles and heavier/larger heads. I have a blue star ladies gillette and a gold tech which is quite small. I like the length of the blue star more, but find the handle a little thick.

What adjustable would you recommend for me? Excluding the merkur vision, I want a retro razor.

You can't go wrong with a Gillette Slim. I have one and love it. I've never tried a Fat Boy, but I'm sure a lot of folks will recommend that, also.

If you can enlarge my avatar, you'll be able to see the relative lengths of the adjustables and a blue lady!

Long handle SA waould be my pick ...

The Fat Boy has a higher profile head, the long handle Super Adjustable has the longest handle, but I think the Slim provides a great balance with a longer, slimmer handle than the Fat Boy. The Slim does have a slightly shorter handle than a long handle Super Adjustable, but I find that the Slim gives me the best shaves of any of my adjustables and probably the best shave out of anything I own other than a slant or the Gillette New Improved open comb head.

In addition to the parameters you mentioned, the head profiles of the fat boy, slim and super adjustable are different as well. The fat boy has the highest, while the super has the lowest, with the slim in between.

I think that the Slim is the best one out there. Great weight ratio. Its not head heavy at all. Perfect effortless shave :thumbup1:

I'm thoroughly enjoying the shaves I've been getting with my 1971 Gillette Super Adjustable. Plus, I love the balance, the long handle, and the cool black and chrome color pattern.

+1

Slim is my favorite of the Gillette adjustables as well, but don't discount the long-handle SA . . . it too is a great performer!

You'll have to try a few to figure out what works for you.
But if I were to recommend one, I'd say the Super Adjustable sounds like it'll meet your needs.

I have to concur with the others on the long-handled Super Adjustable. It would seem to hit your target right in the bullseye. No experience with the Slim, but that sounds like it would be close as well.

I love my FatBoy but in the end I believe my Slim gives me a slightly better shave. It also fits what you want in a razor better than a FatBoy and it's cheaper to get.

I like in the following order my adjustables: XL Mergress, Mergress, FB, and Slim. However, I would not trade ANY of them. All of them are great. :001_smile

I think the Slim would fit your needs the best (and it's the best-shaving razor I've tried). Fatboy is nice, but the handle is fatter and shorter and the head is domed more than the Slim.

Just get a Slim.

I like the feel of the FatBoy, but I can't tell the difference in the shave from a Slim or a FatBoy. To me one shaves as well as the other. But I have a very soft beard anyway. If you like the slimmer handle you'd probably like the Slim. I haven't tried a Super Adjustable so I can't speak to that.
