Belt Help!

Eyoop gents,

I am in need of a new belt! I however am having trouble finding what I want.

Since you gents often seem to know where to find old school stuff, maybe you could help me find a belt with the back left unsealed.

By that I mean that the nap (hairy, felt like part of leather) should be intact on the back. UK or LA would be ideal, mail order is possible.

Any ideas gents?

All the best,

Dave

I got a couple of Levi belts fairly cheap in the Levi store. They are plain leather belts but really good quality.

You might contact a custom leather holster maker, like miltsparks.com, or similar to have them make you exactly what you want.

Expect to pay top dollar for it and be prepared to wait, because each one is made to order, and most of the high end makers have quite a backlog.

It might help if you were a bit more specific about what exactly you are looking for as in dress or casual. If you are looking for an everyday, casual belt to wear with jeans or khakis, look at Quillin Leather. Quillin has been around for ages, making leather goods for the big thoroughbred sales and farms in Kentucky. Their belts and dog collars (not to mention horse halters) are outstanding in quality and workmanship. The leather is as you describe - finished on the face and napped in the inside, and completely customizable in size and width.

I generally look for a fairly subdued belt, like this. The Quillin belts seem to be the right thing, but I have no way of telling by internet. :frown:

Does anyone know the word for the style of leather I described?

Thanks,

Dave

Also, I just found this picture, it has the right sort of back, but a different style to what I'd like.

Again, many thanks.

Ah. I guess that excludes the Wilderness Instructor Belt, which is what I usually suggest whenever someone asks about belts.
If you get no satisfaction on the intarwebs, look for local leatherworkers. Seriously, your local shoe repair place might have some suggestions.

I've had my best luck with belts exactly as you describe, black on the outside, rough unfinished and "hairy" on the inside, thick and strong with the ability to swap in your own belt buckles at the local flea market, for $10

It's practically a stip of saddle leather with holes in it, this belt will outlast me.

There was a belt thread a few months ago with a number of suggestions.

I ended up getting one from Sierra Trading Post at their usual massive discount. Not with the inside you are looking for, but they have a good selection at times.
