Bed, Bath & Body Works Ocean Shaving Cream

They are holding their semi-annual up to 70% off sale this week. They have a product, OCEAN shaving cream in a 6 ounce plastic tube. Yesterday it was 50% off; priced at $11.00 it comes out to $5.50; pretty good for a 6 ounce tube. It is a mild cream, without the menthol like their Proraso in the green tube.

I used it today with a brush and it is interesting. It has some viscous material that is not water miscible along with part that is; thus you get a protective lather that has some goo in it.

It does lather, only there is a component in it that does not dissolve in water. When you lather it is more viscous than a regular cream.

Used it tonight. Not impressed. Expected some lather, but have to agree with post #4 above. I think next time, I'll just apply by hand - maybe it'll make me happier that way. Still can't fault it given the price I paid, though.

ocean isn't on sale, its still the regular price.

It definitely was as of 2 days ago.

I tried it, I think it might end up in the shower for body wash. The performance isn't there in my opinion, especially seeing that its the same price as Proraso. I felt it was lacking in cushion and slickness. It's a nice smelling foam basically.

I tried the “Paris” scent version last night and was very underwhelmed with its (non)performance. My first attempt was brushless – Scent was really good but glide/lubrication was non-existent. I completed one cheek before I gave up and went with the brush/bowl method.

Unfortunately, bowl lathering was not much better. Yes it does lather, but the quality and the amount were seriously lacking. The cream just did not seem to absorb the water and turn into a shimmering lather – All I got was somewhat dry, bubbly foam that disappeared after a 10-15 seconds. Honestly, I never shaved with the “foam”. I finished up with some Godrej Menthol Mist instead.

With that said, my SWMBO bought it as part of a buy 3, get 3 free promo. For me, it’s not worth the hassle of going back out and returning/exchanging it considering its low cost. I'll just use it as prep or super/uber/duper lathering component.

In summary - If you are heading to BBW, skip this stuff and go a few shelves over and pick up 2 greatly superior products: CO Bigelow cream and/or True Spa Shave the Day cream. CO Bigelow doesn't need an introduction but the True Spa cream is my brushless software of choice. It’s very lubricious and slick with a great post-shave feel.
