Bearheart Sraight Journal

Shave number two and first strop was a bit of a struggle. I had trouble getting any hair off on my chin and jawline. Neck was very patchy. Used MWF with good slickness. Wishing I bought a wider strop instead of the poor mans strop. Being a bit narrow is making learning to strop a little harder. Driving on!

Congrats on #2!!!
It took about two months before I got my first presentable shave without having to finish up with a DE.
It's all about developing a confident hand and after 3 months, I'm about 75% there. I use the top quarter and bottom quarter of the blade to navigate around the chin and neck areas. Every stroke of the blade is a total act of will.
Have fun bro!!!

Shaves 3, 4 and 5: check. I got a little carried away and did a double header yesterday. Todays soap was MWF with 4 drops of GFT Lime skinfood. Provided a very slick lather but couldn't pick up the lime. Did two full face with the grain passes. Played with some two handed techniques and different angles of attack on the left side of my chin. Acomplished a "looks like he shaved" shave today. Did a final pass with the 34C. I am glad the patch on the right side of my neck that gives me problems with my DE goes rather easily. Those chin whiskers will be defeated eventually.

PS: just noticed I spelled straight "sraight" in naming this thread.

Very nice! It took my about 3 shaves before I started getting the hang of it enough to make it look like I'd actually shaved. Last night was my 9th shave, and my first one that was super close. Keep at it!

Shave 6. Pulled out a puck of unscented vdh luxury soap and tried my hand at a face lather. A pleasant surprise. Nice slick lather. Shave was sans nicks but lacked the closeness I get with a de. Haven't figured out the trick to that yet.

Shave 7: despite my best stroping efforts, not saying much, my razor seems to have lost some of its sharpness. I lathered up with Jermyn ST after a shower and conditioner prep. Did two passes and was taking whiskers off. A bit snagy. Could it be balsa time already? Still having to clean up with DE.

Shave number 9 was an interesting one. Just got back from the dentist and half my face was numb. Little scary. Getting much closer on most of my face with the scything motion. The chin is still my nemises.

Keep at it. And no way I would shave with a numb face :001_smile

Shave 10: Acomplished a dfs today. Required some stropping between passess and some ATG work. MWF seems to be my go to. I can really dial it in as I go along.

Shaves are improving in clossness and efficiency. Slice a little under my nose on shave 14. Saw it happening in slow motion. My eyes saw the blade moving sideways and my brain was powerless to stop it. I want to take this time to thank the makers of styptic pencils for stopping the blood in a snap.

I did acomplish an XTG pass without slicing my face off. I don't think any razor can get my a bbs with WTG alone.
