ATG Razor Handling

Currenlty I open the razor 180 degrees when doing the ATG pass. I can only seem to perform the ATG pass with my dominate(right) hand. WTG and XTG I use both hands. In the quest to see if there is a better way to do the ATG pass please explain your process/style.

When you open the razor 180 degrees there is a tendency for your fingers to take control of the razor instead of your wrists. Unfortunately that's where most of our bilateral dominance shows up - the two wrists have nearly the same level of dexterity. So practice using your wrist to control the razor. It may help to find another hold with the scales closer to either 90 or 270 degrees to help stabilise it so your fingers can't wreak any mischief.

I only open 180 degrees when going up (xtg) on my neck, everywhere else it's pretty much the standard 270 degree opening. But for that upward pass on my neck it's still my wrist doing the control - the fingers hold it steady and the wrists rotate to follow the curvature of my neck.

The way I hold the razor during my upwards stroke is with the scales in the classic V, thumb on the shank with the nail against the shoulder in that little corner, index and middle finger holding the spine with the middle finger opposite the thumb and the index as far up the spine as comfortable for stabilization; the ring finger on the other side of the scales touching the tail.

I hold like that with each hand to shave the opposite side of the face with the other hand stretching the skin.

I use the 180 grip in certain spots, but employ this grip for most of the ATG pass: this would be the view from the side that would go aginst your face.
