AS needs to breathe?

I read somewhere that you should let the AS breathe in your palm for 15-30 seconds before use. I believe this was intended to let some of the alcohol evaporate in order to reduce the burn and increase the scent that remains on your skin. Thoughts?

Never tried it. I can understand the science behind the alcohol evaporating but not the scent increasing but I'm not that bright on such matters...

Memo to self: devise and market a revolutionary aftershave evaporation spoon, whereby the truly conscientious shaver can allow his aqua velva to breathe and blossom for an allotted time, critically maximizing the experience. Make available in the suggested mother-of-pearl for the low, low price of $99.95.

I am a strong believer in this practice, and I do it. I recommend it. It reduces the ratio of alcohol to the fragrance, and it increases the ratio of fragrance to the alcohol.

Part of using aftershave is the burn and the alcohol. It is intended to clean and close the pores, not just smell nice.

Pores don't open and close, that is a myth. But the alcohol is intended to tighten and tone the skin. I can see that if some alcohol evaporated first it 'could' reduce the burn, but do you really think enough evaporates in 15-30 seconds to make any difference? And the scent level will not change by evaporation. The alcohol will evaporate on your face or your hand, either way the amount of scent that you put on your face is constant.

Not necessary for those of us who have a full time After Shave Sommelier with an After Shave Tastevin around his neck at all times.

Bottle to hand to face.
I'm not going to stand there in the bathroom with a liquid in the palm of my hand for 15 seconds for some nefarious odeur releasing period.

Besides, I like the alcohol and I want it to evaporate on my face, not in my hand. Sounds like an M&M commercial.

It might work, but alcohol is alcohol, and any will burn. As long as you don't shave yourself raw, it shouldn't matter.

I don't know, but I doubt that enough alcohol would evaporate in the 15 seconds it is pooled in your palm to make any difference. If you can't handle the burn get a balm :biggrin1:

As the alcohol "evaporates" I'm thinking the fragrance "concentrates". No? Besides, I've never noticed a difference so Giddy up! Bring on the burn! ( only last a few seconds...)
