Arko Questions

After shaving the old phiz for around (ahem) 50 years I decided to give Arko a try. I'm somewhat impressed; I got a very good shave using my Semogue 1250, Astra and Merkur HD.

Question: Does one need to apply it between passes? I was concerned that the brush seemed to be running out of lather and so applied it between all 4 passes. NOt sure how thirsty it is or if I really needed to do that. As I said, the shave was very nice.

And the scent! Exactly like the men's room in the old Greyhound bus station in San Francisco just after the maintenance guy had finished up. That might take a little getting used to....

There is no certain way to do it, only whatever works for you. Sometimes I find that on a third pass, the lather in my brush gets a little 'flat'. Instead of rubbing the Arko stick on my face again, I have found that all it takes is a little quick rub of my brush on the tip of the Arko stick, charges the brush enough for my last pass.

There is no golden rule in lathering or shaving. Do what you enjoy and works for you. This is why I have in my sig the phrase; "just shave already!" :)

I assume you are face lathering? I often find that the 3rd pass lather is weak when face lathering, even with Arko. I find the best way to use Arko is to break a small piece off of the stick, place it in a bowl and lather it like a soap.

I just did this after only my second use with it, love this soap. Not huge on the smell but it's actually the only soap that has more than enough lather for a 3rd pass when face lathering with my 28mm beast. It seems to create more lather than anything else i've tried (mw, cella, proraso). now i just need to try tabac
