Are Creed soaps worth the $ ?

I'm thinking of buying a bar of Creed's Green Irish Tweed soap to take with me on a trip (to Ireland). The idea is to pair it with the eau de toilette. Anyone here have any experience with Creed's bar soaps? Are they accurate scents or somewhat different from the colognes? Also, should I buy from Creed directly or can anyone recommend a reliable discount retailer online . . . ??

Funny you should mention that...there's a puck of the stuff making rounds in the contributor's forum, with everybody participating writing a review. It's still in the early stages, but preliminary returns seem to suggest that, while the scent is great, the soap itself leaves a lot to be desired, as $70 soap goes.

You could always try Mama Bear's Dublin Tweed, which is an imitation of GIT. It's just a glycerin melt-and-pour soap, but it's less than a seventh of the Creed soap's cost, and I'd wager the Creed isn't nearly seven times as good.

The OP is talking about the bath soap, but this shaving soap thing is still a good reason to become a contributor

As a GIT junkie, I have the bath soap, aftershave, and EdP. Instead of springing for the shave soap, I got Mama Bear's Dublin Tweed and it is outstanding!

The bath soap lathers like a champ, smells just like the cologne (minus the fresh opening blast) and I've found that it does extend the scent live quite a bit. However, it leaves my skin pretty dry afterwards so I need to moisturize afterwards.

yeah, I've read around on some forums that the soap is drying. wonder why? figure for that kind of money, it would be perfect. I have oily skin though, wouldn't be a big problem for me. thanks for the input.

If you want to use it for the scent, it's very good. I would recommend using an unscented cream with it to make a superlather, but by itself, it's not worth the price. That's not to say I wouldn't buy another and superlather because the scent is quite nice...

yeah, the idea is mainly the scent. soap is soap - $1 Irish Spring can get me clean. but my concern is having a thorough freshness combining with the eau de toilette, that lasts around 5 hours.
