Aqua Velva scent change

Has anyone else noticed that the scent of Aqua Velva changes from what you whiff in the bottle to what comes across after it's on your skin? I think it improves dramatically. Is it just me? I have avoided getting AV for years because I did not like the super sweet over powdery scent that came out of the bottle when I whiffed it. Based on all the positive comments on B&B, I went ahead and bought some anyway . . . and I have to say, after I put the stuff on, the super sweet powdery aspect disappears, and what's left is a very delightful scent . . in my opinion. I just wonder if anyone else has experienced this with AV.

Sometimes I notice the scent evolves from old man in the seedy bar at the local hotel to janitor walking down the hall with wad of jingly keys.

I jest. I agree & enjoy the scent of Aqua Velva too as it evolves as you have described

I recently bought a bottle of AV after reading the reviews about it on here. I quite like the scent, in the bottle and on the skin, but the cooling effect of the menthol is what I like best about it. I know there are more mentholated AS available (Osage rings a bell) but this is cheap and readily available.

One of the few after shaves I get positive unsolicited compliments on. I find that kind of odd when at first I didn't like the scent one bit.
Now I'am also getting addicted to the Italian Floid.

Both are great go to after shaves.

I find the bottle scent to be a little off putting, but I do like it once id dries on the skin; others seem to like it to, as I got numerous compliments back when i still used it. Sadly, I seem to have become immune to menthol, and even my proraso seems to have lost its kick for me.:frown:

Yes the smell in the bottle is nothing like the scent you get after its been applied to the skin. Like many aftershaves really.

My wife didn't like the smell in the bottle, but loves it on me. It seems to change its characteristics once it's on your skin.

Personally, I love it and I can get it everywhere.

+1 on the aqua velva i like it after it calms down a bit and tends to stick around for a bit the wife likes it too but untill it calms down a bit it almost runs her out of the room or maybie im just putting to much on

Its impressively current scent considering its been around since the middle of the 20th century. One of the best drug store smells...

The "smell in the bottle" versus the "smell on the body" IS different.
Not surprising, we have been saying the same thing about Lilac Vegetal for a long time.

I think almost everything smells different once it is on your skin and mixing with your unique body chemistry. That is one of the many reasons why not everyone gets the same results with every AS, Edt, etc.

That's how I describe it too. It smells damn good though.
Unfortunately, I haven't bought a bottle. Most of the people I hang around would just make too much fun of my wearing it...and I'd deserve it too

If you make up some fancy shmancy name for when they ask, I bet you dollars to doughnuts you get a plethora of compliments.

bleu à l'eau parfumée = Blue Fragrant Water

drap bleu floue = Blue fuzzy cloth

Just bought a bottle, but haven't worn it yet. The out of the bottle scent knocked me back a bit. Kinda liked the drydown, though.

Do any of you dilute it with water?

Dilute? Dilute?!?! What's the matter with you? It's meant to be used straight. You don't want to dilute it's menthol-ly goodness. :nonod:

Speaking of menthol-ly goodness, I have almost finished off my first bottle of the Ice Blue. Don't worry though, I already bought myself an extra large bottle to replace it! :w00t:
