What's new

Aprilington Is Back!

A month of Arlington (or, for my mates in the Southern hemisphere, Marlborough, to offset the Arlington use during Marlboroughvember). Who's in with me???

I thought about making April my Arlington month, but then decided to finish off my DRH Almond and some samples first. Might have to reconsider and join since I haven't used Arlington in some 4-5 months and have been looking forward to it.

Gosh, what timing!

A short while ago I tried my Arlington sample that came from Garry, and was so impressed, that I ordered a tub, which arrived in only two days from Royalshave. And I even 'sprung' for the aftershave, which will be coming separately. Really a fabulous cream. Now, whether I have the discipline to be loyal for the whole month, that's a different story. But it would not be the worst thing! Thanks for bringing it forward.

I shaved with Arlington today, brilliant it was. Don't think I could use it for a month straight though.

Quick question to Arlington soap users...I have Arlington soap and use it regularly. It gives me a good shave. My Proraso soap gives me an outstanding shave. I face lather and load my brush every time like it's my last luxurious shave before going to prison.

My Proraso lather is always slicker and more comfortable. I know that Arlington is a top quality product and that it's a triple-milled soap as opposed to an Italian soft soap. Outside of the standard (and realistic) YMMV, any technique suggestions to maximize my Arlington experience?

My current technique with both soaps:

I wet the top of the soap then dump the water after a few minutes. I use a badger brush (EJ best) that has been left to soak then dried out a bit with a moderate squeeze. I then swirl the brush until it's heavily loaded and add a touch of water. After applying to my face, I add a bit more of water if needed. I have soft water that's great for shaving.

Any suggestions? Thanks.

More water I think. Arlington takes quite a bit more than most soaps in my experience. Also, my EJ BB is quite floppy, it's not something I've found great using with soaps, and given how hard Arlington is, it may have some trouble picking it up?

for jasonb8736, I personally haven't tried the hard Arlington soap, only the cream. While I would not call the Arlington cream the 'slickest' or 'most luxuriant' soap in my little den, all-around it's a great item, given a good lingering scent with moisture and butter. I'd suggest that you get a sample of the cream to try in comparison to your puck and the Proraso, and let us hear how it goes.

Interesting point about the brush. I do, in fact, have a Simpsons Duke 3 on the way that should get here any day. I believe that's a firmer brush and may work out better with the hard soaps.

I've generally left creams behind as my overall experience is my face likes soaps better; however, I may take your advice and try the cream. The shaves are not uncomfortable with the Arlington soap. Rather, the shaves just don't seem as close as when I use Proraso soap. Thanks for your insight.

I'm in, by the way. My apologies to the OP. I didn't mean to hijack your thread.

No worries, using the soap properly is all part of Aprilington!

A month of the same soap is hard. I've only been able to do half the month. April is tough. I like to use Proraso when the weather warms and my florals, too. But I will do my best and hope for more to join!

i'll try for 3-4 days a week but that may be hard, i just got mike's lily of the valley and mw lilac and this is such a good time for these floral scents

I was going to do a month of acca kappa 1869 but this is a better idea. I have a tub of the cream that actually hardened up and now has the consistency of soft soap so should be good to go. everyother day shaver so I'll go 15 shaves with it.

I love Arlington, but I couldn't use one product for a month. I even cheated during the Proraso item of the week and snuck in some Vostok. :blushing:

I'm up for this, albeit unintentionally. I decided to give my relatively new puck of Arlington the 3017 treatment, starting on April 1. Once everyone here is off enjoying their other creams I'll still be enjoying Aprilington (at least for a couple months)! :biggrin1:

Ah what a shame, I just finished up my puck of Arlington last month. With the number of soaps I have in my den now, it will be a while before I get around to replacing it. Oh well, maybe next year.

Ok...Got my new Duke 3. I'm still plugging away at the Arlington. Lots of backbone in this brush because I can see that I've dented the hard puck.

A bit of advice, please, again...Is it better to load up the soap fairly dry then add water while I lather my face or should I add more water while swirling on the puck?
