AOS soaps = Good?, Service = Fail!!

I too saw the many posts here regarding AOS products.
In my opinion, in comparing to other quality soaps and creams, the prices are only somewhat inline depending on if you compare with other quality mall (Crabtree & Evelyn, the Body Shop, CO Bigelow c/o Bath & Body Works), or whether you compare with quality online or high end store (Trumpers, MWF, Penhaligons, etc...).

That being said I get excellent shaves with both my $8 puck of Sienna from C&E, and my $16 6oz Maca Root shaving cream from the Body Shop.

I wandered into my area AOS store, and was told they did not offer samples (not that they were out).
This is contrary to any other store I've been in, and in fact was what got me hooked onto the Body Shop and C&E both.
Perhaps this was only a policy of this particular store (White Plains NY).

For Fathers Day I asked for a tub of their sandalwood cream.
Lo and behold, the day came and I received that and more from my mother in law, who was talked into a whole set - Cream, pre-shave oil, ASB, and badger brush. Lots of samples were in the bag as well.... hrmmm....

I already have enough gear, so all I needed was the cream. I called up the store to ask if I could bring this in for store credit, and pickup a few pucks, and perhaps the ASB anyway.
Without skipping a beat, I am told they do not offer credit without a receipt. I told him nicely that it was a gift, I didn't have a receipt, and that it is unopened and unused in the original package. Sadly he comes back with the same response, and tacks on a terse 'I'm sorry," then promptly hangs up on me.
I'm a little annoyed at this, but I decide to call corporate instead to see if I can get a better response.
I am routed through and around from one person to the next, and after running through the details 2X in a row, I get tossed into voice mail stating they are 'too busy to take the call at this time.'
So I proceed fill out their online form, and we'll see where this goes.

I consider myself a reasonable guy, and I don't think I'm asking too much.
All I want is to return the pack, and get an equivalent amount of soaps and creams - I'm not looking for a refund... yet.

If this game AOS wants to play is just to ensure their one time sale, then so be it, as they are going to lose a lifetime customer. I will also make sure I tell everyone I know much the same.
They can either remedy this, or lose out.

Anyone else have issues like this?

I am greatly pleased with my AOS soap, cream, pre-shave oil, and after shave balm. They are great products. I buy at my local barber/shave shop and don't run into this kid of thing.

Sorry to hear that corporate gave you the extreme run around. However, if store policy states they must have a receipt then that is their store policy. Does you mother-in-law still have the receipt? Policy is policy.

Whoever told you thy do not give samples is just plain wrong. They practically throw samples at you.

Sorry to hear the problems you are having.

Never had a problem at the Paramus store. The staff there are at least friendly. One fellow in particular was very knowledgeable the last time I was there.

No returns without receipt is fairly common for the retail fragrance business (but not 100%). When I worked for Macy's, then Bloomingdales, it was common policy. This was 15 years ago. But yeah it does stink.

I never had a problem with them, but they were once very rude to my better half.

How much respect can you have for a shaving shop that never heard of B&B?

Take it back to Nordstrom. Their return policy is much more liberal than most retailers. I can't speak for the White Plains Nordstrom (at The Westchester), but most others I have been in carry AoS. They are priced the same as the AoS store, so it will be a wash as far as value. They should allow you to exchange the set for soaps or whatever strikes your fancy.

On a similar note, the customer service at Nordstrom is exemplary. I buy my AoS products either there or at Saks, depending on where SWMBO is shopping, even though the service at the Denver AoS is decent.

I was told a story about Nordstrom's legendary customer service, years ago in a customer service training seminar.

An elderly man had to return some merchandise. He was very happy that they didn't hassle him and processed his exchange without incident. There's supposedly a letter from him at Nordstrom headquarters.

But, that's no story! The kicker was.....the man returned a set of car tires. They do not, nor have they ever carried tires.

Take them back to Nordstroms, the West Farms Mall location carries AoS.

P+G is a big company, sometimes things slip through the cracks. I wouldn't write the whole enterprise off because you had one bad sales clerk. If you're really still upset, write a letter to the head of their customer service division, you'll get some kind of reply that way.

Oh, and the tire story? Great story, but like all good stories that one is totally apocryphal, by the way.

It's a damn shame my #1 product is sold by such a terrible company. I hate to put it this way, but I hate each individual employee at my local AoS. And it's the opposite with GFT. Hate their products, absolutely adore their staff

I love AOS products and have not had any issues in their store. With that said, I have only been in one store and the staff was very nice.

My local AOS is always a pleasant experience. They have the same staff since they opened, they know me by name (I have only been in there 4x since June), and they like to hear how things are going and have been selling a lot more DE's since I have been explaining to them about the benefits of them over carts.

I always had a good experience with my AOS store, always polite, answer my questions, always throw in a little freebie!

I'm so jealous
