Anyone try using a coti dry?

I know that everyone here is au fait with people using oil on cotis but I noticed on the bay a fella from Poland selling Belgian Coticules and it's mentioned that they can be used dry.
Well I've had a look into it via Google and it seems that some people do finish on a dry coti after water.

Have any of you guys tried it? What were your results like? Anyone try water/oil/dry??

Cheers all - I'm still dreaming of the weekend when I can get 5 minutes alone with my new coti and a dull razor so I need to think of new and innovative ways of using it instead of learning to master it.

I've tried water, and oil, but not dry.

As they do not require soaking, or much drying, I'm not sure what the benefit would be. In fact, the water gives most of the feedback that we use to judge how the edge is progressing. So no. Probably won't.

Interested to hear others, though.

I understand what you guys are saying about the feedback but from reading the posts (haven't read too far yet) it seems that the edges were already maxed out on water so undercutting it well, before going over to no pressure on a dry coti.

If I get a chance this weekend to hone properly I'll give it a go, even if my technique isn't up to scratch I think that if I can get a positive HHT from a dilucot given the info all the members here have shared with me then I'll be happy!

Dry honing can produce some nice edges with the coticule. I just don't like the feedback on the stone but it works on a fair amount of stones that are troubling to get the nice edges from.

I've read a few times that some people finish on their JNAT dry as the last step. I tried that with mine, the HHT sky rocketed and I became intrigued, however the shave really sucked. Haven't really put much thought into it since with any stone.

After reading into it there is a school of thought that says it gives a more jagged edge than with water and that's why it gets a better HHT as it catches more readily on the hair. Anyone with a microscope care to check for me??!!

If you check out coticule.be, you'll see Cedrick Smythe mentioning it. I've tried it myself, and it seemed to have some positive effect if done with care. I've had a couple of razors I've bought from Cedrick, and I was pleased with the edge both times.

I've done it. About like dry humping, if you haven't any alternative it will do in a pinch, but a bit of lubrication makes a big difference. I've also tried the hone till the stone dries approach and it wasn't any better than hone wet till its sharp technique.

Er, personal lubricant makes me think of bodily fluids.... don't wanna know anymore. But obviously this is a reference to the recent posts using lubricant oils which should be confined to the bedroom. Don't fancy honing in bed, I still have all of my old fella and don't fancy a bah mitzvah at 36!

all joking aside personal lubricant should make a coti an even more awesome finisher....

especially for someone scared to put oil on their coti...

Right then, that's me off to the chemist at lunch time to go any buy a pack of three and some lube! Hope the missus doesn't find the receipt in my trousers at the weekend.
Do you think she'd buy the excuse that it's not for me but for my coticule?

maybe if you call her and tell her....
