What's new

Anyone know anything about this Razor?

I'm new to DE razors but I picked up this razor at an antique store it was black when I got it. I thought it was brass, or copper but when I polished it up, the top appears to be copper, and the handle seems to be copper bottom with the plate with the tongs on it either brass or gold. The handle is half and half.

It says Gillette, Made in Canada Patented 1920, 1926 1929 and I think 1931 but the digit after the 3 is kinda barely there looks like a one. Its a 3 piece razor and man it was dirty as hell. Came with a silver box that just said made in England, no interior but all scruffy. I will try to upload a pic or figure out how to put pics on here for you all.. My phone takes poor pictures lol

Thanks

Aseries, welcome to B&B! Once we have a pic, you'll have your answer in a few seconds. With all due respect, no profanity on the site. We're not prudes, actually, to the contrary, you will not find a more tolerant and civilized group of gentleman anywhere on the web. We just tone the language down and express ourselves without expletives or at most ****.

By the description, I believe you have a New. Since it's made in Canada I'm guessing short comb, but with pics we would be able to tell you for sure.

Here is a picture of a long comb New.

Those are the two most common handles you'll find with a New head. Either handle could come with either head.

I added a picture but now I got two questions, first why does a tiny picture show up huge on here lol.... And second question is anyone know anything about this razor sorry for the poor picture quality..

Screen resolution is 72 dpi, so if you upload a little picture that is 300 dpi, it will be displayed 4x bigger, if that makes any sense.

Oh and I had a filthy Canadian Old Type open comb, cleaned up pretty good and shaves quite good as well. That new should work a treat after a little bath.

Would anyone know anything about the razor I picked up, anything more at all. Just curious thanks

Looks like a Long Comb Gillette New to me. I believe these were made in the 1930's. I've got one just like it, and it shaves like a dream. Get you some blades and give it a whirl! I think you'll be impressed.

The Long Comb New is a fabulous shaver. You picked yourself up one of the best ever. You are inspiring me to pull mine out! Congratulations on a great find. You will love it.
