Anyone Know Anything about RGuns AR Uppers?

Worth the money:
Colt, Daniel Defense, Bravo Company Manufacturing, LaRue, Noveske
Still good: S&W, RRA, Bushmaster, with the caveat they are inspected thoroughly.

I would avoid Spikes, Model 1, RGuns, DPMS and Remington (DPMS under a different name) and most others of their ilk for anything except plinking/hunting non dangerous game.

I've got rounds in the five to six figure range through ARs in my lifetime before and after my service and then went to work for a manufacturer (on that first list) for a while.

With ARs, you DO get what you pay for.

Nailed it except I'm not a fan of Windham Armory/Bushmaster.

Even they can build a good gun at times. Not my favorite, but I'd still take a Bushhamster over anything on the 3rd list, and just check it real careful.

Bushmaster must have gone downhill over time. I have two Bushmaster ARs from the early 90's (pre Clinton ban era) that have been fine.

When there were like five manufacturers....Bushmaster built a pretty good gun.

After the black rifle explosion of the mid 2000s they cranked up production capability and let QC slide. That's when Bushmasters began to have real issues out of the box.

The original owners of Bushmaster sold in 2005-06. A few years later, the new owners closed the original plant in Windham, Maine and moved to Ilion, New York. Soon after, the original owners reopened the Maine factory, rehired a lot of their former employees and began building Windham AR-15s. Now, I won't say they're the equal of the LaRue or Noveske or Daniel Defense rifles I've handled, but I have a couple of friends who own Windhams and they really like them. One wasn't happy with the trigger out of the box, but he said the company couldn't have been better about fixing it.

My current AR is a Remington VTR15, so guys are scaring me. I thought Remington 15s are Bushmasters, and the Remington R25's (AR10 frame) is a DPMS??

Well - anyways - the next AR will be built with more carefully selected parts based on the best advice available. :001_smile

Remingtons are a mix of Bushmaster/DPMS depending on the caliber.

Spikes can build a decent gun, i've seen some run well. But the parts aren't milspec or aren't tested nearly as much as they should be, and QC can be quite varied. For range use, hunting, and etc they're probably fine, but run one hard, and you'll start to see parts failures.

I like the LaRue Sniper System LT011 20" upper; Kinda what I am looking for specs-wise. But the price!! Holy Fort Knox Batman, my Remington VTR15 base rifle, is less money than a single LaRue upper. :w00t:

Rock River makes a decent AR. My dad has 1 set up for national match DCM shoots and loves it. I have put a few rounds through it also and have never had an issue.
