Anyone ever try Creed Irish Tweed?

Creed Green Irish Tweed... It's pretty expensive, but apparently its a favorite of the likes of George Clooney, Clint Eastwood, Russell Crowe, etc.

Nice stuff. Very expensive - ~$140 -- but you can get a sample vial at FragranceX.com for about $4. Great way to try it out before dumping that much cash on a bottle.

Also, Momma Bear's Dublin tweed shave soap is a very, VERY close match.

It is a crowd-favorite around basenotes.net and here on B&B.

I highly recommend it! It gets a lot of hype and a lot of bashing as well (some people think it smells just like Cool Water, but don't even get me started on that!) but regardless of whether you end up loving it or hating it, you should at least sample it because it serves as a reference point to so many other fragrances that get discussed online. But again, I highly recommend it!

GIT is probably the best known and best selling men's fragrance from The House of Creed. It's hugely popular here and also in Basenotes, a forum for fragrances.

Creed is a 200+ year old perfume house that started in England and moved to France in the 1800s.

It's quite popular with celebs, and one of the legends is that it was created for Cary Grant (though I'm starting to doubt that one- he was pretty old when GIT came out in 1985.)

It looks to me like Beene's Gray Flannel was its inspiration. After GIT's launch, Davidoff's Cool Water came out. They all smell similar, but GIT is the KING.

It is pricey, but if you're going to have one pricey "go to" scent, it's one of the best. A true classic. Women like it on men.

Be aware, it's high price and popularity has made it the most counterfeited fragrance by far.

On the retail level, I only know of Nieman Marcus, some Saks and Bergdorf Goodmans that sell it. On occasion, Costco seems to carry it.

There are several websites that offer it. Other guys in here may know of which frag sites offer it legitimately. Be careful about looking for it on Ebay.

The other killer Creed is Millesime Imperial. It's more "contemporary" than GIT- a lighter, fresher scent. They are constant favorites in here.

Nah, Riverside drive is nothing like GIT.
Riverside Drive is very good, and the only Bond that smells natural enough for me to like. Riverside Drive is essentially a huge natural-smelling Pineapple note, paired with a very strong and lightly smoky sandalwood note. There is also some slight herbal notes as well.

Bond no.9's Chez Bond is the one that smells nearly identical to GIT in the top notes, but once they dry down, Creed's GIT smells like Sandalwood and Ambergris, whereas Bonnd's Chez Bond smells literally like powdery grape Candy. I am not exxagerating.

GIT is a favorite for Good reason, as it is fresh, green, floral, slightly smoky, and woody all in one classic composition, and can truly be worn year-round. I for one place it in my top 3

Just because celebrities like like GIT doesn't make it good. On my skin it's too sweet, too cloying, and too synthetic smelling... YMMV

I have it and love it. Have gotten more compliments from it than anything else I've ever worn. I will definitely buy more.

+2 Many of us and celebs can tell you it's fantastic, but be patient and either get a sample, or go to a retailer that carries it and sample it there. Don't blind buy anything this pricey. It may turn your stomach.

If you go in store, apply some and leave the cologne counter. Say thanks to the SA who is drooling to ring you up and walk away. Give it a good hour to settle on to your skin. Frags have "top notes," an initial burst that introduce the scent, but should NOT be solely used to judge the scent.

It takes at least an hour to drydown and reveal the true character of the scent which is what you'll be living with after initial application. You also want to get a sense of whether it's going to have any longevity on you. I like Creed, but some of their scents dissapear on me.

Many of Creed's fragrances are completely overrated.

IMO, GIT being their most overrated. To me there was nothing memorable about this scent.

FYI: By the time many of us chime in on Creed/GIT, you will likely be more confused about this fragrance.

Really? I don't get the connection at all. To me Gray Flannel is rather strong, almost pungent while GIT is rather mild and understated.

I tend to agree. A lot of the Creed's, to me, are nice enough, but kind of innoccuous. GIT would fit this description.

BdP would be a clear exception, excellent, complex and interesting.

The Dept Stores that have Creed can be pretty generous at times. I've gotten four (or five?) samples on two different occasions.

Grey Flannel is indeed much more pungent. I remember it to be almost choking on initial application. But it came out in 1976. GIT was 1985. Grey Flannel was hugely influential male fragrance.

Both make use of green violet leaf (octin esthers) and grey citrus (dihydromyrcenol). Grey Flannel was first using that combo and it was very popular in its day.

BTW, Pierre Bourdon was the "nose" that created GIT and later Cool Water.

I'm a GIT fan and I'm not saying they smell just alike. But all three are in the same family.

That's right, it's the Chez Bond that reminds me most of GIT. Thanks for the reminder!

I don't recall the OP asking if Creed was "overrated", just if anyone had tried Green Irish Tweed by Creed.

Am I missing something here? :confused1

which is more annoying?

Question: "has anyone tried creed?"

Answer 1: "yes"

Answer 2: "yes, it was good, but probably not worth the cost and IMHO a bit overrated"
