What's new

Anyone ever seen or heard of one of these?

Anyone ever seen or heard of one of these? It's a straight I picked up at a local antique shop for $5. I took it home and decided to clean it up and have been using it for about 6 months now. Problem is that I cant find anything about them on the net. Ive searched it worldwide. lol.

It's stamped on the blade w/

Hoff & Bro's on one side (My cunningly brilliant detective skills tell me this is more than likely the maker)

And it is stamped on the other side w/ Germany xx.

Can anyone be of any help. I would greatly appreciate it.

Oh and Sorry ya'll no pics. I have no way of posting them. Not very technologically inclined.

It's possible that the "Hoff & Bro's" merely marked their name upon an imported razor... from what I understand, many razors of English and German origin were imported into the US and then marked by the reseller as their own "brand"

I saw a blade marked Sears & Roebuck (sp?) on the face tang and Sheffield on the back... I'm gonna guess that Sears didn't set up shop in England to produce razors to sell...

My .02cents... worth much less with current state of the dollar.

It amazes me how many makes of straights are around, like the above poster says, makers imported blanks from germany or the uk, scaled and stamped the razor and sold it as theirs, when you think about how many razors are now regarded as "must haves", and how many razors are actually out there, the ones to have is such a small percentage of the total, since I started getting into straights I reckon so far I have had perhaps 40, around 10 of these are well known, wosty/w&b, perhaps 15 I have read about on various forums or the net, the other ones, nothing, like yours, so you may never know much about your razor, but you have a piece of history in your bathroom that not many others, may be your the only one, will have.
