What's new

Anyone else think this way?

Whenever I see particularly nice Gillettes on here or ebay, it makes me wonder what makes them think they would go under if they offered ONE high-end de offering to be sold in high-end department stores and specialty vendors in limited quantity. They could call it a collectible if they thought it would compromise their cart advertising. You'd think with their r&d resources, they would be able to come up with something inspired (and probably overpriced, but still).

Some people on ebay lose all common sense when bidding.
Others follow the lead.
I haven't been able to buy a razor on ebay .... people bid way too high IMO

I have gotten away with some real steals on Ebay, but you see this all the time. I did overpay for one razor though, but luckily the seller threw in a free second razor for me. It was only a Gem (they routinely sell for $1), but it was nice to have a consolation prize thrown my way for reckless bidding.

Ebay is a horrible place to shop for ANYTHING. People seem to enjoy bid wars as if they are a hobby.

You can get some gems every once in awhile, but usually you just end up getting into a bidding war with someone who has more money than intelligence.

I remember trying to bid on some old video games when I was younger and their accepted worth was roughly $30 for each one. When the auction ended each one was over $120 each. Same thing happened when I tried to get some ralph lauren polos. Auction ended with the price being higher than it would cost to go to the mall and buy brand new ones.

People just want to have bid wars with each other.

Over time this artificially raises the price of the item because people believe its actually worth that much.

Or maybe the sellers are idding up their own goods. It happens.

True for the most part, but for someone like me in the remote outskirts of northern Europe there's not that much choice unfortunately. For brand new products you can also find some good deals and with new stuff the risk of receiving junk is obviously lower.

Many times it seems obvious people get carried away by their adrenaline. And no doubt many enjoy that. I think there's impatience in that too - if people held off their bids a little, the winning bid would in many cases be lower, all to the benefit of the bidders.

pretty much answers the OPs question.

perhaps the thing to remember about ebay is that not every bidder is on a budget.
Items are worth what someone is willing to pay for them.
In the scope of what "hobbies" can cost, wet shaving is pretty minimal.

Want to spend some bucks?
Let's go get our private pilot's license.
Or decide that high end audio is something to pursue.
You can spend (I have) more on a pair of interconnects from the DAC to the pre-amp than on any razor you'll see on ebay.
