What's new

Anyone else ever try this?

Today I whipped up a bowl of Proraso green and did a two pass shave with my Magic Straight. After the second pass, I got the idea to brush more lather on my face and left it there while I cleaned up. After about three minutes, I rinsed the lather off with cold water then applied my WH and AS. The feeling it left was cooler than normal and my skin was left feeling soft and irritation free. I'm thinking this works best with Proraso because of the menthol but will be trying this my next shave with a different soap, maybe Tabac or TOBS sandalwood.

I did this with Vostok because my face wasn't as cold as I wanted, then followed it up with a cold water rinse and some Osage. The effect was great and lasted quite a while.

First time was a couple days ago but I haven't tried it with anything else since.

Just a quick shave with mentholated cream is very uncomfortable to me . . . that would set me on fire for sure!

I'll bet it is the moisture remaining in contact with the skin that is helping you. Have you ever tried an after-shave balm or lotion? That works well for me if I have a rough shave . . .

I always sort of rub the excess lather in along with washing it off. Sometimes I use the soap to was my face after shaving. I like it and it works for me. After all that comes out the balm.

I believe it was Ackvil that recommended doing an Über-Lather (add glycerin to Super-Lather) and rubbing the excess all over your face when done for the benefits of glycerin.

I've been known to do the same with plain MWF in the winter for the lanolin.

I do nearly every shave. I find it very pleasing with most of my lathering products and currently none of them are menthol. Tabac really leaves my skin feeling well replenished.
