What's new

Anybody bought from Best Sharpening Stones recently?

I have purchased honing gear from BSS several times during recent years. I have an issue with an August order and haven't been able to communicate with the operator through any channel, including PayPal.

I suspect it is a one man business. The Labor Day discount is still headlined on the website. At this point, I guess I'm mainly concerned about the guy's health. Anyone here know what is up?

The Labor Day discount is still displayed on the Best Sharpening Stones home page. I been trying fruitlessly to communicate for over a month. My PayPal dispute has been open for a month and has been escalated for over a week.

Sorry to hear that man, what stone did you buy?
Just a couple 6x2 diamond plates for pocket knives and turning chisels, a hard arkansas slip for carving chisels, and a set of three 10" glued down 'arkansas' stones for bigger (or ill-regarded) knives.

I wanted to see what the cheapie 10" 'black ark' would do as a knife finisher, but that is the missing item. I don't touch knives to my surgical black or Norton trans ark. I don't expect I'll ever see it, but it would be nice not to pay for it.

I am a little worried the guy is in the hospital or worse, but there should be some sort of backup person to explain, lock up the website, and deal with the commercial issues.

This is not an uncommon story with that vendor, it's been a 'thing' periodically since forever.
It's one of the main reasons I would never send even a penny their way.
If your PP claim has been open a week, they should come to a decision in a few more business days.

Thanks for the word. I'm done with BSS once PayPal does whatever they will.

I hope you get your money back. If you want good knife stones look for a medium- fine llyn idwal. Those can be cheap if you dig. Blue Pyrenees stones are some of my favorite tool stone and they're cheap from ac. I've never bought from bss but ac will always do you right.

For the record, vendor did not respond to PayPal either. PP has refunded me. First and I hope last time I have to complain to PP.

I generally do not browse the auction sites and stick (I thought) to established and reliable sellers. And BST.

I don't think I've ever seen the ac site, just other sellers of ac stones. Time to go look, thanks for the tip.
