What's new

Any news on wether Tabac sticks will be back?

Has anyone heard weather or not Mauerer and Wirtz will be fixing the labeling issue with the Tabac sticks so that they can import them into the U.S. again? I noticed Bullgoose had them still listed as available last night so I ordered one. It looks like I might have gotten the last one, because they are listed as out of stock now. It would be a shame if M&W abandoned the US market with the product over a labeling issue.

After the Moos debacle I squired away a number of Tabac sticks and refills. There should be some to spread around after I am cold and gone :001_smile

Perhaps time to stock up if it's a favorite. As I understand it, the manufacturer is not interested in addressing the labeling issues so I would not expect the product to be available for the long term. I still wonder who else will end up running into problems with the labeling requirements.

Looks like just about everyone is out of it. That's why I placed an order when I noticed Bullgoose was still listing it.

I can't believe it could be that big a deal to make a simple change to the label in this digital age. Cost should be minimal.

I believe it is actually the USDA labeling requirements that they had trouble with not the FDA. I do not know what the actual issue is, but I can say that these issues can be more complicated than they seem on the surface. In my business we deal with USDA food labeling all the time, and some of the changes they require can be a major expense to a manufacturer. It is not always as simple as changing a product label. It may require product re-formulation.

Reformulation??? Well, we don't want that. Tabac is fine the way it is.

From what I understand the formula is the same for the puck and the stick but only the stick is affected. Hopefully its just the labeling. I don't have a stick and puck to compare the diffrence in packaging.
Also Bullgoose still lists Klar Kabinett which was known to be discontinued earlier this year and not coming back so I wouldn't use that to gauge whether or not it comes back.

If that is the case you can make your own shave sticks out of the soap. I grate the soap and then pack it into a shave stick container I get from WCS. You can see it here.

That's true. International vendors would still have them.

It's not just the issue of US vendors not having it in stock, the issue is getting the product into the country to begin with.
Ordering directly from EU may or may not solve the problem, as everything still flows through US customs which is where the problem is.

I was under the impression that this was over a labeling error on a package of shave soap... Unless there is an ingredient in it that is illegal to own (drugs?) they will look at the package, look at the product, and say yep... its shave soap. ship it.

Unless you are ordering enough bulk quantity to get intent to sell and attract the attention of the FDA or the USDA.

This is a bunch of hooey. If I die of "Tabac Poisoning" then at least I will die happy..... the U.S. government just doesn't seem to understand these matters  .
