Any decent alcohol splash after shave knockoffs of Creed Green Irish Tweed?

OK, I am in love with this scent ... or at least the QCS version of it in their soaps and creams. Now I am definitely NOT in the Warren Buffet net worth category, but even if I was, I don't think I'd buy Creed GIT at $135 per bottle. I'm too old and set in my curmudgeon ways to be able to do that without having a self-induced stroke. Especially with such wonderful shaving products at everyman pricing, like Cella, Proraso, Clubman after shave, La Toja shave sticks, Astra blades.

So, while I could afford a bottle and I love the scent, my very nature rebels at the thought, and if I did buy it, I'd never be able to enjoy it. It may not make sense, it's just the way I am wired. No way I'll ever pull the trigger. So, I note that other soap makers have copied this scent, in addition to QCS, and it seems to be popular. Anyone found a knockoff after shave that is close and reasonably priced? I do not expect an exact match.

Feel free to discuss any GIT-type products here, but just so you know I despise all balms, period. I'm really after an alcohol after shave splash, but a cologne would be a second choice.

My refill of GIT is in the mail from QCS, can't wait! I've been without it since last winter.

This is a great question. I also do not like balms much, unless I really mess up bad during a shave. If you like the scent of QCS GIT, I personally think that Mike's Barbershop smells very similar. I couldn't do QCS GIT because it gave me irritation, but I use Mike's, and I certainly wish that I had an aftershave that went along with it. I would love to hear a response because like you, I would never pay for Creed.

John, I am on a bit of a similar quest. I love Mystic Waters Viola di Bosco. However, finding a matching a/s is nigh impossible. So I started thinking about Grey Flannel aftershave. GF has violet notes in it but they are distilled from the leaves and not the flowers(I am sure GF uses a synthetic isotope) . I bring this up because I have seen it postulated on various web sites that GIT was inspired by Grey Flannel. GF is much sharper to me than GIT but I can see where the comparison can be made. Personally I find Creed fragrances smell completely synthetic to me but who knows? Anyroad a bottle of GF aftershave may meet your need and it is quite inexpensive.

Cheers, Todd

John, do you have any close family or friends?
Do you exchange gifts at holiday season?
Have you ever treated someone special to dinner?
Maybe you will inherit a little something from an aunt?
Or win the lottery?
Even curmudgeons can be eligible for a little luxury once in a blue moon.
And you'll love it.
Guaranteed.

I just thought of this. May people say that Davidoff Cool Water is a knockoff of GIT. What about trying a bottle of their aftershave or cologne?

I have a sample vial of GIT and have sniffed Cool Water any number of times. To me, GIT is NOTHING like Cool Water. CW is to me as all the modern fragrances are; Oceanic/water, bit of sugar, shampoo, etc. You've smelled it time and time again. I have never smelled Aspen so cannot comment. I am biased though. I think all the Creed fragrances smell cheap and synthetic. Including the vaunted GIT. Ducking for cover now. And yes, I understand fragrance is even more YMMV than shaving lathers.

Cheers, Todd

Hahah, of course I do, but my wife is a substitute teacher, my daughter just started working after graduating from college and my boy is in the PA National Guard and going to community college. I don't want to put that on my list, I'm more into giving them things and what I expect from them is slippers, ties, that sort of thing. HOWEVER ....

I may have found something I might put on my list. First, I remember liking Grey Flannel--a LOT-- as a younger guy, I just never replaced it. And thanks for the link to the other thread, I think Aspen by Coty may be my best shot! Plus, I've not smelled Creed's GIT, so I am not missing anything, I like the QCS croap version of it. So, since I know I like Gray Flannel and I suspect I will like Aspen, I think my problem is solved!

Thanks, gents! I need to get a book from Amazon my son recommended to me, so I'll toss one of those in with the order.

I'm not sure what Creed Green Irish Tweed smells like but I recently purchased and used an AS that may be something to look into. It's from the website Etsy and the shops name is WickedSoaps. They have a 4oz AS called Green Irish Tweed for $8. Good price for a hand made product.

Here is the ingredient list:

Witch hazel, aloe vera juice, vegetable glycerin, polysorbate 20, fragrance oil, calendula oil, st johns wort oil

It has a crisp Irish tweed smell that lingers well after the shave is completed =)
