Antique DE Safety Razor that takes Batteries

i think ive seen one on ebay, might be a current listing actually, that has a large-ish external battery that powers a motor in the razor to make it vibrate.

im not sure on the battery type but id guess maybe itd be like a lamp battery, if not it wouldnt be too taxing to connect a modern battery pack. as far as use goes the effectiveness of vibrations for shaving is debateable and id guess the lack of balance, wire and the focus being on the "gimmick" of vibration leading to a not so great head (just my speculation) would mean it wouldnt be the best shaver and im really not sure on the collectability of them but they would make an interesting conversation piece and they are a little unusual so in time may become more valuable, in any case they dont seem to be fetching alot on ebay at the moment so if youre interested in them, especially if you dont mind it being just a display piece should it be a bad shaver, then id say buy one, the worst that can happen is that they for some reason become completely worthless and youll lose out on around £15 and gain an interesting talking point. although based on your low post count should this be for a first shaver id advise taking a safer bet.

Is this strictly hypothetical?

I have a wind-up razor.

I've seen a couple that plug in. Not to worry--we only use 115V on this side of the pond.

its ok itll just go slower on 115v  ive not seen the plug in versions and i certainly wouldnt want to chance soaking wiring of that age in water bolting a blade to it and rubbing it on my face. but i have been tempted to get a wind up for a while now, have you used yours? any chance of vibration white finger?

I have not used my Stahly yet.

So many razors, only one shave per day.

I've used my Stahly. What you'll notice, aside from the vibrations, is that you don't get much feedback. Or should I say, such an overload of feedback that it's hard to tell what's coming from the blade cutting hair and what's vibrations from the razor. But it's nice. There's a reason it lasted so long.

I believe seimens made one in germany in the 30's you will normally see one on ebay minus its battery pack, there is one on ebay somewhere at the moment with its battery pack, which i beleive is an old stlye 4.5volt. You can still get the batteries but they are rather pricy.

looking through old magazines on google books i saw an ad for a DE razor with a light... dont know if it was real or anything just saw the pictured and left, guess there is nothing new under the sun....

These were all gimics when they came out. Just like the multi-blade cartridges now. I'd stick to what works. But if you want to collect them, go for it. I just wouldn't use them (if you find one that works)

It's in a plain cardboard box with no labels. There's no markings on the razor and a number of "double six" blades in the pack.

The razor itself it about 6 inches long, takes 2 batteries perhaps larger than AA but smaller than a C. The handle is blue plastic covered chromed metal. Open combed razor. The top just pulls off and the blades sat on the combed part of the head with the cover just snapping one.

I picked it up in a junk shop, but it is definitely a battery operated DE razor. I've not seen one like it on the net and no idea who made it.
