Yup, time for me to change them, I bought a cheap pair over the week-end and the lenses are crap.

I have something for Bollé aviator (Zyrium) but the new model doesn't feel comfy for me...

I'm changing them as the sunny is constructed with 6 screws and I'm currently missing 2 of them (they just fell and I can't find them). They are mostly holding with crazy glue and the Bollé store is less than helpful as the model is now discontinued.

I usually wear sunglasses to walk and drive. No need for aerodynamics (sports).

Anatomy of the sunglasses so that everyone know what I'm talking about.

What I don't like?
A straight temple tip like most Oakley

I know, Oakley are very good sunglasses and they have great review but they don't hold well on my head.

What I want?
A curbed temple tip like those (but not those sunglasses)

Aviator type sunglasses

Brown lenses if possible or green, I found those better than black...

And a good polarized. Bollé actually allow me to look in the sun directly without being blinded. I can look at the reflection of the sun on a glass building without any problems, of course, off the road, water, etc.

So, what's left?

I know that the price range can go from $9.95 to $600 easy. I had a quick look at Serengeti and they seem to offer good lenses but, anyone tried them?

I tried the Ray Ban aviator and the way they are made, I feel like the temple is too low so the sunglasses will fall forward if I look down.

Any thoughts?

Tried a pair of Dirty Dogs ??

Know they're all around Oz.

The discount shop at Spencer St DFO has them.....( amongst others of course )

Nicely price and polarised......

Been down the more expensive Bolle and Rayban path ( found out how much it was repair a set of Titanium Raybans that broke just out of warranty  )

Sworn of REALLY expensive glasses now cause I always seem to lose or scratch them , but not going with the cheapos as my eyes are way too important !!! :blushing:

In the end though it's hard to recommend Sunnies as it comes down to fit !!!!!

That's the thing, I bought a pair of polarised but they aren't nearly as good as my Bollé... I stepped out of the shop with the new sunglasses and was blinded by the building across the street...

How good are the Dirty Dogs?

I would say comparable to any polarised Bolle or Raybans that I've had ......... but at half the price !!!!

p.s. you really shouldn't be looking directly at the sun even with sunglasses on !!!! :tongue_sm

I've recently started to "get serious" about a good pair of sunglasses for driving, as I have a pretty long commute. I've been leaning towards these so far in my search:

They are the Revo Transom. Revo has some other variations of this type of design as well. From what I've read, the Revo polarized optics are high quality and when I tried them on once, I was impressed with the quality feel they had. Once I get a free moment to head back to a mall and try them on again, I might be getting these.

Yes I know I shouldn't be looking at the sun directly but sometimes, you turn a corner and you get blinded by it. The Bollé blocked everything and were not tiring for the eyes...

Not sure if I understood what direction you were going.....but here are some Ray Ban Caravans that are awesome....I own these with gradient grey lenses but you can get them with green or brown as well. They seem to fit most head shapes

I had a look at their website and in 'Technology' it seems like they are doing what I want... That would be a potential candidate.

Oliver Peoples Benedict Aviator:

A bit pricey but I can't find anything on the lenses themselves on their website... Thanks anyways! :001_smile

Instead of getting designer sunglasses why don't you try getting good old American aviators:

http://www.randolphusastore.com/aviator.html

http://www.uswings.com/sunglasses.asp

The first link seems to offer what I'm after with the dark polarized. The second I'm unsure. Good site, thanks!

Ah, the problem that I have with Ray Ban is the angle. The hinge is usually lower around the frame which give me the impression that the sunglasses are tilted forward... Those in the picture don't seem to be as pronounced...

I will have a look into those.

+1 on the Maui Jims-awesome glasses and great quality. I have worn Revo, and they were maybe the best I've ever had, but heavy w/ the glass lens. Last two pair I've bought are Native's, and I think they are super for the price-in the $100 range. Really like my current Native's, the Bomber/Asphalt
($95).

I'll go the completely opposite direction of most folks' recommendations. WileyX is what I am currently using. Their polarized lenses are quite good at cutting out glare, and they aren't all straight earpieces either. I'm a WileyX or Oakley guy since my eyes are very sensitive and I need lots of peripheral coverage. Maui Jim, Bolle, et al., just don't provide what I need.

Here is one, the Skyee, with polarized green lenses:

There are others that you can find on their site. WileyX

Serengeti Aviator. A member of the 4x4 club I'm in is a Qantas pilot and he reckons they are very popular in the aviation industry.

I had a look at Native's website, looks all right, I will do more researchs on the lens technology.

The WileyX could be a potential too.

Serengeti is already on the list, thanks John, I think I saw a pair somewhere but will check the other brands first.

Have you looked into Eagle Eyes? Not sure if they are all they are hyped up to be, since I have never used them, but they seem to fit your requirements at a decent price.
