Another Rolls Razor thread.

...Sort of.
I just had a buddy rehone my Rolls and he advised me that my strop is unusable. He is not wrong. The previous owner put a serious gouge in it.
Do any of you experts know where I can find a replacement strop or what leather I should use to cut my own? I did a search but couldn't find too much help. Ebay seems to be a bust right now.

Thanks,
Joe

Why not just buy a ragged rolls of the same vintage and have a parts kit? They aren't exactly costly in parts shape.

Is the gouge at an angle to the strop's sides or parallel?
If it is angled I think you can ignore it if you use the four step method mentioned in this site.

If it is parallel to the sides is it off centre? If so, the four step method should work here as well.

If it is parallel and dead centre on the strop can you sand it out?
If not I guess a replacement is in order.

You might want to direct your question to the Strop sub forum in the Straight Razor Forum. They might be able to answer your question sooner.

I think I checked the strop forum.
The slice is parallel with the blade. I've got a buddy that restores old straight razors and he told me it's in my best interest to not use this strop as it will probably further deform the blade. It's too deep to be sanded out.
I've thought about buying another Rolls for parts but most of what I found was too expensive for my liking. That darn ebay premium. And being in Canada usually makes shipping costly.
Anyway, thanks to you all for taking the time to look at the post and giving me some feedback.
